    Hey guys,
I have a question about my sound issues with this laptop. When I'm chatting on Gmail with headphones in, I can hear the voice through those, but if I have a video open at the same time, the sound for the video will come through the laptop speakers. Has anyone found a fix for this if they have the problem?

right click on the speaker icon > playback devices > on playback put "speakers" as default and disable the other devices

When this happens and you click on the volume icon, does it look like this?

I've had this issue with this hp laptop and my previous dv6 (2xxx series I think?).

It still happened after that was selected as default and only way to fix it is to log off windows and log back in again.

Try going to Control Panel>Sounds> Playback tab then disable the Communications Headphones. That worked for me when the sound keeps leaking out the speakers.

I had the same issue on a dv6z I ordered. Alasi can't be helpful as I ended up just reterning it. The hp tech guy couldn't help me either. With mine it was probably a short or missplaced wire somewhere as the headphones didn't register and the mic didn't work.

Hmm..well returning it is not for me, seems to work alright when I'm skyping so I guess I'll test and play around a bit more. Thanks!

KumquatWrath, are your headphones connected via USB?

I have this issue intermittently. Basically it refuses to acknowledge the headphone output. I have restarted the Windows Audio services, but it remains locked to outputting via speaker.

Half plugging in the headphone outputs audio quietly, but the speakers are still engaged. Muting the headset does nothing, and sometimes the audio via headphones is normal volume as well, so turning the speakers down turns down the headphones too.

Restart works, but is annoying. Have reduced the issue by unticking the recording options in Beats, happens maybe once or twice a month now. Previously happened every couple of days.

Not sure of the cause, tends to only happen with Google Chrome or Steam.

Just another quick note, happens on a HTC headset with Mic via 3.5mm jack and via Steel Series headphones, no Mic via 3.5mm jack too.

DV6-6C38TX with latest IDT driver from the driver thread. Happened on earlier drivers too.

I had this same issue when using Skype with BF3 or TeamSpeak. Skype would use speaker and TS would use headphones.

After you have plugged in your headphones, go to playback devices > make speaker as default device and default communication device. It's an IDT audio bug that routes audio to the jack instead of the speakers. Nothing else worked for me.
