    hi,

i got a problem with my hp dv5 audio. it suddenly died. i sometimes get a very low sound from speakers even tho all the settings are set to high. when i try to plug in the headphone, all i get is static noise even if i turn the sound controls(master) to mute. i tried every troubleshooting i found on net, i even tried reinstalling os but no avail, im guessing a hardware issue? if yes, can it be replaced? if no, can i use a usb headphone and get audio from there? what are my alternatives? thanks!!

thanks for the response. ive got another question, is it the main board problem? or just the audio/infrared board that needs to be replaced? i guess if its the main board, its only practical to go for the usb headphone or get a sound card.

It would be the system board that needs to be replaced as the sound circuitry is soldered to it. The audio/infrared board is just the audio jacks and the IR eye board.

Mobos usually run about $130-$200 on ebay. While USB sound card dongles run $3-$50 on ebay.
