Have a Compaq Presario R4000 that I recently purchased used. Everything is fine except when I try playing dvds. The picture is fine but I get a "clicking like" sound when the dvds play. I don't have this problem when I play cds in the drive so I don't know what the problem is. I know it's NOT the dvd as I have tried several different disks.

It came with WinXP but was upgraded (sometime) before I bought it to Win 7 Ultimate.

Other than that it's a great machine.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Maybe try head phones, is it there too?

Btw, this is a COMPAL forum, not COMPAQ.

    Good luck

It could be the software being used for DVD playback. Try using Media Player Classic Home Cinema (part of the Combined Community Codec Pack). That particular application seems to play DVDs just fine, but as far as I know, it can not play Blu-ray (not really an issue on a Presario R4000).
