Has anyone else notice that sound isnt as high under Vista as it was XP? It seems more muffled than it did before. Or is this just a problem I am having?

Wierd. I have noticed it on my DV9000. What does it say for drivers you have currently? I think mine says like mid 2006 by microsoft or some such.

Actually even the balance doesnt really work. I cant shift from right to left and it actually move right and left. Very weird.

I'm using the Conexant drivers that HP has on their site.

    They're from June as well.

    Good luck.

When I usually use my notebook (like right now) I usually just use my headphones, so it matters little to me, really.

I use some external speakers plugged into the headphone jack. Needless to say reinstalling the sound drivers did nothing for me. It still will not balance between left and right and it doesnt have the trebbile. Even tried to use Quentesential media player to see if that changed it and it didnt. Who knows lol.

Hmmm maybe it doesnt control left and right while plugged into the headphone jack lol. Oh well least that solves that. Now if it had a bit more mids and trebbile all would be right with the world.

Realize that right now we're stuck using generic Microsoft drivers that are lacking in many ways. They only provide the most basic support for audio. Conexant HD Audio drivers have been posted by HP if you have a "Venice" HD Audio device, but many of us are using systems with "Waikiki" HD Audio device, for which there are no specific drivers yet. Hopefully in the next few days that will be corrected. That's basically the only major driver I still need for my system.

How can you tell which device you have?
My wireless still needs to be better. I still get crap signal for sitting 3 feet from it. Not sure how the driver could affect its reception but apparently something is going on there.

Go into device manager, select the HD Audio device, and go into its properties. Go to the details tab, and in the drop down box select Hardware Ids. Look for the DEV_####. If it's DEV_5045 then you have a "Venice" codec and one of the available drivers should work. If it's DEV_5047 then you have a "Waikiki" codec, and HP hasn't posted drivers yet.

Mine says 5045. What posted drivers are you talking about though? I have tried the ones from the link you have given as well as a link off of a different system on their site and they were both the same. And still crap lol.
