    SoundMAX integrated audio problems

    've had this laptop for about a week. Generally I am very satisfied with it. There are a few questions about the unit.

    Sound:

    I've been having issues with the SoundMax HD, especially during dvd playback. There's a lot of stuttering, which also affects playback. I'm assuming it''s a driver issue. I've found some alternative drivers, but windows vista won't let me install them, saying it has determined that the best drivers are already installed. How do I make it do what I want?

    I'm still not entirely sure whether vista is worth the trouble. Especially since it takes up so much space. Anyone got a good guide what processes one can shut down to make it a bit leaner?

    It would be a good idea to be more specific about that laptop, the drivers...

    On the other hand I care to tell you, I gave up on Vista because of sound and video issues. I much don't like the new HAL (Hardware abstraction layer), not letting me use the sound or video driver's advanced settings...
