I am trying to locate the source to my ac adapter issues. The first adapter melted due to heat being expelled by the fan. I sent my laptop in for repair at the end of its warranty in November, and it came back repaired. The second adapter is suffering a different issue. It is now out of warranty. The issue for the new ac adapter is the tip is burned black. It is burned so much now that it is 99% impossible to get it to charge again. What I can tell you is that the tip of the new adapter is burning hot. I could brand you with it. What is the source of the overheating? Is it the battery? Included is an image of the burned, blackened ac adapter tip and an inventory pick ticket from the repair with a piece of hardware attached to it. A scan of the repair sheet is provided with the URL below.

That looks like it physically melted due to high voltages or currents. Something isn't quite right with either your adapter or your notebook.

I would try getting HP fix it, as they are supposed to warranty their repairs for a certain amount of time regardless of if your notebook is out of warranty or not.

    Man, that looks ugly.

It has already been the 90 days since the warranty repairs. I will try calling anyway. Thank you for your help night.

I also need to note that my computer freezes up and then whites out from the sides coming towards the middle of the screen. I have to kill it when this happens. I was wondering if this is from a voltage problem as well?

    Major Update!

I did some research and found that my processor driver was two years out of date. I updated that and hopefully that will resolve my issue. In the meantime, I'm calling HP to exchange my ac adapter.
