Occasionally in firefox my spacebar won't register an input. It lags and types a space later. This is incredibly annoying.

    Any ideas? Hardware? Software?

I haven't noticed the problem in anything other than text fields sometimes in firefox.

Open a word or notebook document and use the heck out it to determine if it just a firefox issue.

Also take a can of compressed air and air it out if you determine itsa all around issue because my desktop done that once and just had some crud or lint under the enter key.

    I hasn't ever happened elsewhere.

It only occasionally happens in firefox too.

    It really is strange.

It's strange that it is such a rare issue. I type far more often in Trillian than in web entries, yet it never happens in trillian.

    Strange issue...

Does your system use Windows Vista?

If so you might want to take into consideration that not all programs are 100% up to date and fully compatable/functional with it..

Yes it uses vista, and thats no excuse for keyboard lag. Vista is a functional OS believe it or not. :)

You might want to scan for keyloggers.

I had the same exact problem. I would type a sentence, and alot of my words would be together. I had to send it in to replace the keyboard..

In Truth I hadn't notice ;) - with all the years of going through the entire Microsoft product line -> DOS 5/6, Windows 95a & b, Windows 98/2000/ME/XP

If you've ever had experience with the full line of microsoft products in the past, you'd know what I mean.

Point is -> Vista = New

New products off the shelf are not fully supported especially with the gazillion of companies that have to update their product lines so quickly.

I had the same issues in Firefox at times, in my case it was the fingerprint reader software. After I disabled the "Enable automatic detection of logon dialogs and web pages" I have had no more problems. I haven't had time to look into this problem in more detail yet, but it's possible your problem is also related to the fingerprint reader software. I'm assuming it is always watching in the background to detect login information it can autocomplete, so I can definitely see the potential for it to cause problems in some cases.

It could also be that the input focus is on another element than the rendered html window. For example, if you just clicked on a tab, the focus is on the tab (you see a dotted line around the tab title), and the space bar will not page down on the web page.

I have noticed this in ThunderBird (but not in FireFox). I hit the spacebar, but the space does not register until I type the next character. I was attributing it to the option to Spell Check as You Type, but don't know of that option in FireFox.

I've had new versions of windows before my friend. A keyboard is pretty easy to get right ;)

So the fingerprint reader software is doing it?

Next time i notice it i will definitely turn off the software and see if that alleviates it.

If that's so, then you'd obviously know that neither functionality nor dysfunctionality of recently released OSes, has nothing to do with *full* application/utility *compatibility* of all the various softwares out there ;)

Ok, this problem was driving me crazy as well. It is not Windows Vista, Firefox, or the HP Pavillion Keyboard...

The problem is VeriSoft Access Manager's Single Sign On (SSO). You know, the program that gives you fingerprint access to web pages.

    Solution:
    1) Go to 'Settings and Options' in VeriSoft Access Manager
    2) Make sure you are viewing the settings for 'Single Sign On'
    3) Deselect 'Record user credentials' under the heading 'When logon dialog or Web page is detected'

Now, this means that VeriSoft will no longer prompt you automatically to record your credentials when a login form is present on a web page. But, that gets annoying anyway and now your space bar will respond on time.

I don't have VeriSoft, and I've noticed strange abnormalities with the keyboard in Firefox as well. Sometimes, the keyboard won't work at all if I've clicked on a text area I want to type in. Other times, the arrow keys won't work, and certain characters (Like a comma, semicolon, colon, etc) will bring up a "quick find" dialog

Uncheck the first two boxes as shown here, restart Firefox, and see if it is different.
