Hello all, I just got a R300T from a friend, and it was missing it's battery and PSU. I've already bought a couple PSU's for it (eBay is very addictive) but I'm still wondering about the battery. I'm wondering if the cover for the battery comes with the battery, or if it's seperate. If its seperate, where would I find such a thing? And it can run without a battery, right?

Every notebook I've had could be run without the battery, including my HP zv5000z (same guts as the Compaq R3000z), so you should be OK there.

If the battery is like the zv5000z's the cover is part of the battery casing, which would explain why your friend didn't give you one. The battery just drops and locks into place and is released by a slide switch.

If the unit is still within the 1 year warranty, you may want to try contacting HP and tell them your battery doesn't hold a charge anymore. They should ship one out to you. These batteries should be a consumable item (you dispose of the old one) and they should request the old one back. Well, at least not for their business notebooks, not too sure about their Pavilion & Presario lines (home user models).
