As a prior owner of a dv1000, I have to say I'm a little bit underwhelmed.

The sound quality (and output/strength) on many levels appears to be weak. Previously, I thought HP laptops rocked because of their H-K speakers, but this one has been a bit of a downer.

Anyone in a similar situation with their dv2000 or dv5000?

I am using a DV4000 but I have ALtec Lansing speakers and it appears to be very loud when turned to max. No problem with my one. Mybe you didn't turn your sound to the max or your mono etc. are no turned up. Try to turn up your audio options.

I have a dv5000z with Altec Lansing speakers and they sound great. I have the volume barley on and it still sounds great.
