You should go to HP's site and put in your model number and look for the audio drivers for your model. If they do not have drivers for Windows 7, use the drivers for Vista, they will work.

I know it is odd but it IS the audio driver that controls the light on the control panel (or at least an interaction between the audio driver and switch drivers). I had the exact problem when I installed Win 7.

The driver that Windows 7 installed worked but not the light (always amber). I was lucky since the Windows 7 updates offered an updated audio driver for install and I selected to install that option. It solved my light issue even though my audio also worked prior to the new driver installation.

I would install a driver for your particular notebook and see if that fixes the issue or if Windows Update offers an audio update as an optional download, try it.

yes, deeastman is right. the audio driver controls the audio button for your laptop. That's the generic default driver that is installed (just gives you basic sound functions, nothing else). You need to go to the HP website and download the audio driver for you laptop. If htey have a Windoes 7 driver, great, but if they don't, get the Windows Vista driver, it will work.
