Didn't see any 2018 Spectre x360 13 owner's thread so questions for the owners' of 2018 model - are there any major known reliability issues with this model? Just placed an order (i7/16/512) with the $200 rebate and wondering if heat issues from 2017 model are still a concern (or any new issues introduced). It's still very early days for this model though...

    Thanks!

Heat issues probably depend on your intended usage.

I have the unit you've ordered with the 4K screen, about five months old.

My main use in addition to email / surfing / office apps is development. I run Vagrant / Virtualbox or Docker containers (not possible to do both at once because one won't work with Hyper-V and the other requires it).

The machine has handled that load with no issues. It gets hot in places, and the fan comes on, but it's no louder than my Surface Pro and not objectionable to me.

I understand the machine can have coil whine but I've never noticed it.

Connecting peripherals through the Thunderbolt 3 ports is a crap shoot but I have a working setup now.

I use mine daily and haven't experienced any other random glitches or reliability issues.

    Thanks ellswrth.

Was the problem caused by a thunderbolt or usb-c hub now that it works reliably? I'd be interested in what hub you have. From one unboxing video from another country I thought it'd come with a HDMI+USB-A hub but it appears HP ships with just an ethernet dongle in US.

    The model is 1ZX32AV_1

I haven't received it yet - placed on 6/19 and it still says it'd ship on 7/6. So, tried to cancel it today to order another one as the price has come down a bit and the lady says it cannot be canceled once ordered and have to return :(

Did you end up still getting on of these laptops? I’ve had one for months and I picked mine up at a local Bestbuy. It’s the 4K, 8550u, 16gb model.

And I know how you feel on the cancelling order fiasco as I did the same thing. I originally bought one off the go website that had the 1080p screen instead of the 4K model. But it was taking so long to get ready that I bought one at my Best Buy and tried to cancel the online ordered one. Same deal they couldn’t cancel the order even though it wasn’t yet shipped.

Bought HP Spectre x360 - 13-ae009ur few months ago. I'm observing whining noise coming from the surface when keyboard backlight is turned on, and goes off as soon as I turn it off.
Does anyone observe the same issue?

I bought my wife one of these for her birthday. Reg screen, 8 gb ram 256gb ssd. It absolutely screams, it really flies. It will blow the doors off many supposedly high performance notebooks. She loves it! No coil whine. Runs warm, not hot, even in our sweltering tropical climate. There are effective bios updates to control the heat
Slight niggle would be, in my opinion, its a chick notebook. Perfect for the ladies. Its the Mazda Miata of notebooks. I have a bit if difficulty picturing an offensive lineman, sitting in a Starbucks, towering over one of these.

    Hi guys,
Is anyone using this laptop (the 16GB model) with multiple virtual machines (3-4) running in parallel? How is the performance in this case?

    Hello All - 13-ap0033dx / 13" 16GB / 512GB owner here if anyone has any questions.

So far I am very pleased. Runs cool, very quick compared to the previous dual core machine I had (also a Spectre x360).

I'll post more pros and cons soon.

Depends on how much RAM you allocate to your VMs. I can run two comfortably, disk I/O is fine, but my VMs have WebsFear and either DB2 10/11.x or Oracle 11.x in them so I have to give them 4-8 GB RAM each. Things start getting flaky if you bump up above 15GB RAM usage. Doesn't help that multiple tabs in Firefox are such pigs, usually shut it down if I'm doing any intensive work.

As far as "Mazda Miata" or big guys hunkering over it, it's a perfect machine for road travel. Other than screen real estate or RAM it's every bit as solid as my 15.6" Lenovo X1 Extreme that sits on my desk.

Hey there. Could you tell me what is upgrade able in the back? For instance, is the WifI module soldered to the board?
