    Hello

    HP dv6880ee, Vista 64 SP1, 4GB, 320GB, Nvidia 8400M GS.

I have just purchased this piece and thumbs up to it so far.
I have just a small issue but hope some whizzie there solves it for me. It might be far fetched for me to think that it could be anything than the startup programs.
Note: I have installed all possible drivers available with HP.

    This is my problem,
I work with the CATIA, CAD designing s/w, and I have noticed that when I start Windows Vista...wait for the taskbar to get loaded and when everything seems loaded and the cursor stops rolling, I click on Catia. It takes about 90 to 120 seconds for the software to start. But when I wait for about 3 to 5 minutes from when the system actually seems ready and then start the software then it takes only 8 to 10 secs to load.
I would really like someone to help me with this issue cause I would like a fast starting software with a good notebook as this. Please tell me if this is a slow starting HP driver or is there any way to load them all quickly or remove some unwanted drivers.

    Thanks

    Hi

Its probably most of the bloatware that came with the laptop thats slowing it down. If you can get a hold of a Vista install disc then i suggest you do a clean install

If your notebook isnt connected into any sort of server type network then you can disable the Workstation service. This will speedup startup by lots

Start > Services.msc > Look for Workstartion > Stop the service > Disable the service > Restart

Now see if it loads faster

    Hi

Thanks for the response. I tried it but it still is the same. I have the bare minimum on startup programs and did manage to shutdown a few unwanted services as well, but there seems to be no significant improvement.

Is there a way, or a program I can use to check the startup programs and services when the system starts?

And there is also this message that appears when I boot the system. It says BOOTING GRLDR.... and slows it up as well. I have partioned my hard disk into 4 drives without disturbing the HP Recovery, with the last 2 drives partitioned as a logical drive. Is this issue something to do with the hard disks or is there any way I can remove this?

If you want to see all the services that are loaded when you're computer starts and remove services and programs from automatically being started up, hit start then type in msconfig inside the run command box. From there click on the startup tab and you can go through and uncheck the programs and services you don't want to start automatically.

Oh..Those are the basic things I have already finished doing.. I have uninstalled Quickplay. DO you think that the Intel raid manager can be uninstalled?
I am still searching for a solution before I go for another clean installation of Vista 64.

    Thanks

It's definetly doing something in the Background after it starts up..cause u said if u leave it for like 3 - 5 mins. after the program would startup quickly. I suggest doing what FlipFire suggested which was to Reinstall Vista if u have the disk...i know this will defintelty solve ur issue(s)...all the unknown bloatware will be off the system.

If you go to the windows forum and look at the vista tweaks guide, there's a batch file made to defragment boot files which decreases boot time, you should try that out along with some of the tweaks.

I'm not sure that you haven't disturbed something. I've never seen a message like this, but it looks to me like your machine is having a problem with Grub. Did you perhaps have an issue trying to dual-boot Linux? If so, I think that may be the cause of your problem.
