From reading through several posts, its sound like alot of you guys are picking up the HP dv6t series laptops.

What color have you gone with?

    Dark Umber or Steel gray.

Its a tough decision to make, just curious what every has thought once they see in person.

My laptop is Steel Gray and I'm perfectly pleased with it. It looks like it's completely made of metal even though it's only a "metallic finish." It was $25 well spent IMO.

Between my original dv7t-6000 and my new exchange order, I have had both. They are both excellent choices. I am not sure if choosing the silver over the umber is worth $25.

As far as pros and cons go: The umber looks like a sleek black indoors. In direct sunlight, it does change to a slight brown, which is neat. On the other hand, even greasy fingerprints are unlikely to be noticeable on the steel.

Thanks guys. Very informative. Sounds like id be satisfied with either. I thought the umber may be a bronzeish color ... But sounds more appealing

the umber is a good accent against the lit hp logo and the lit touchpad. it's also a good contrast to the silver sides and speaker grill. i personally wish it was a fuller black like the envy 14 beats edition, but the brownish tint is definitely unique.

the steel gray is a good accent against the black touchpad, black keyboard, and black screen. it's a mac-ish color scheme, so take it for what it's worth. it also apparently doesn't collect fingerprints as much.

i initially wanted the steel gray, but i ended up getting the dark umber because i didn't think it was worth an extra $25. if you're getting the dv7, i would suggest going for the dark umber because hp has been shipping steel gray ones instead. if you order dark umber and get steel gray, you should be able to complain and get a few dollars back. plus, you're already saving the $25 by getting the steel gray for free. just by two cents. both are great colors.

My dv7t-6100 came in steel. It was among the first batch of the new revision to go into production, and the factory sent them all out as steel even though umber was the only option available when we ordered. I was disappointed at the news as I really liked the umber, but every day I appreciate the steel a bit more. Quite satisfied. But like I said, if I was ordering new I would probably still go umber just because I'm not the type of person to pay extra for purely cosmetic changes.
