So, once in a while my 6910p display still becomes pixelated and then goes black within in a minute or 2 of returning from hibernate or sleep mode. Any suggestions on the solution this problem. I have updated the ATI driver and my laptop is showing the x2300 card. If i search for drivers for the graphics card, it says it is up to date.

you are running vista, correct?
You might want to try this. I got this from reading the dell forums; i can't remember who wrote up the fix, but i have to give credit where credit is due.
The problem lies in the Microsoft Transient Multi-Monitor Manager, which automatically detects the lcd and any other external displays connected to your notebook. It runs everytime you boot up, resume from sleep, and resume from hibernate. To disable this, open up the Task Scheduler.
In Task Scheduler, on the left hand side, navigate to: Task Scheduler Library -> Microsoft -> Windows -> MobilePC. In the center frame, you should then see a task called "TMM". Right click it to disable it and you won't have that blinking screen and then the change in resolution.
I tried it on my notebook and it works! -
Thanks. Hopefully that works. Its just a waiting game now because even at the worst, it only happened sparingly.

Still encountered the problem. It happened once. The monitor just went black after returning from sleep.

does the display eventually come back on to its correct state (as in on, correct resolution, etc?) after you get the black screen?
If you are just working on your notebook, does the black screen happen?
I can only surmise a couple of suggestions:
1. perhaps update the video card drivers. If it's the ATI card in your notebook, then maybe there's something in CCC that you can manipulate that would cause this.
2. maybe the connection between screen and motherboard is loose
3. maybe there is some other process in your OS that is making your notebook screen to turn black and then pixellated (i'm assuming that you mean the screen changes to a lower resolution).
the resolution i outlined in my previous post was to resolve the issue that after bootup/resuming from sleep/resuming from hibernate the screen would flicker a black screen, lower the resolution, and then show the desktop. I'm not sure if that is the exact problem that you are having with your notebook.
If it only happens when you resume from sleep/hibernate, then perhaps it might be an OS issue.
But, if it happens during other times of operation, then it maybe a hardware problem with the notebook. -
I have tried all of these suggested solutions and my computer is still having the problem. Today i let it sit and it went into self hibernate. About 10 seconds after returning from hibernate the screen got pixelated (not lowering of resolution but sort of grainy/broked into lines and blocks and) and then went black. I then get a black screen with a big blue box that does some sort of system shut down/memory dump or something. I noticed a file name on this screen. The file was "atikmdag.sys"
Does anyone know the solution to this problem? I have tried installing new drivers and I even reinstalled the drivers from HP's recovery disc.
Please advise. -
bump...any advice?

FYI:
I think I have solved the display shut off problem. I talked to an HP rep and she advised me that it was an issue with Microsoft's 3D screen saver (in Vista). I had to go to the screen saver settings and change the screen saver to "None" and then apply. Since then I have not had the problem. -
I hate to do this to yah~ but heh...
Have you thought about going back to XP?I was running vista on my 6910p and it gave me nothing but issues...
