Hello all,
I ran across this odd problem yesterday and the best way to explain is to give some backround.
My 8710p's screen runs at 1440x900
It is my personal and work computer so it goes back and forth between home and office.
I have a docking station at home and at the office both with a second monitor.
It's always worked flawlessly with each set up, no change required in the display properties, just plug and play. My monitor at work is a 22" widescreen running 1680x1050 and at home I run a 19" widescreen @ 1440x900. The reason I bought the 19" was to match the resolution and make gaming a breeze.
Anyway, both are connected to the docks and monitors via DVI.
Yesterday I got home from work and put the notebook in the docking station and something on my 19" monitor looked off. It was grainy and appeared to not be in the native resolution. I checked the display properties and it showed it as 1440x900 while the actual menu on the monitor showed it at 1280x1024.
So basically it looked terrible being out of the native resolution. I troubleshooted for about 35 minutes switching to VGA instead of DVI, using the HP monitor button (fn+F4) to switch back and forth and the only way I got it to work was using VGA.
I tried to plug in DVI again later in the evening with the same problem.
Does anyone have any idea why this would be?
Thanks much.
