Thanks so much for posting the info about the academic discount and coupons! I was about to buy a HP Pavilion zx5000 yesterday but decided to look on the net one more time for info about it. I found this forum and saved over $200 by using both the discount and a coupon. FYI, I asked the second salesperson at HP to whom I spoke why the first salesperson hadn't mentioned an academic discount to me even though I told him I teach in a university and would be using the notebook in the classroom. He hemmed and hawed - never could give me a credible answer. So it's thanks to you guys that I found it and saved the $$.

you can usually only enter one coupon code, but you can try and if it doesn't work it will say you already have one in or something similar to that.

Has anyone tried to use more than one coupon and succeeded, either ordering online or by phone?
Thank you in advance. -

Hmmm, I wish I saw this thread sooner
I ordered a Compaq V2000 yesterday evening. The man on the phone who I spoke with didn't mention anything about student pricing - even though I told him that I was a student and wanted to know if they offered any special pricing plans for students
I wonder if they will refund me the difference? -
how come i can't find the zd7000 in the student discount page. please help and link me. thanks
-
on the main page it says $100 back for dv1000 but I dont see the dv in the coupon's eligable laptops
-

-
where did you find it? I can use it too..
-
Hey... anyone know if they charge tax if you order via education?
-
I think if you are not from one of those 3 or 4 listed states on HP site, there wouldn't be any tax charged period.

Hi, I'm new here. exchange student at GWU, only here until december. want to buy a notebook but i'm totally overwhlemed...don't know where to start, all those no. are mumbo-jumbo to me (all i know is the higher number the better, apparently, and more expensive).
Anyone so kind to help me? I could call you, ask a few questions, or e-mail exchange. I need to start NOW, am very learnableLooking for something up to 1000$, for fast Internet access, though not sure which one - wireless isn't an option in europe yet, my main use is fo word-procesisng, just need to be flexible..oh, and the fun stuff, movies and pictures but can compromise on that. bottom line - reliable, so that i can take it back to europe and not worry for the next 3-4 years.. and how do you 'apply' those coupons? this whole e-stuff makes me nervous - so i place an order and somewhere in the process they'll ask me for a student discount? or a coupon no? or how does in work?
thanks, hopefully someone will catch up with me..

rehotka, you might do fine with the Dell Inspiron 1000 (if i got the name wrong, it is the only notebook thats not silver in their website).
-
Sorry for replying so late...it probably be sooner if u make a separate post over the hardware section...but here are some nice units under 1k. You can go with pretty much any averatec 3200 model and still be under 1k. You can also go with a couple of emachine model...check best buy site here and there and they have some good deals on it. Lastly, you can configure a zv or zx for a fairly good price on hp website if u don't mind a desktop replacement. All these choices would get u under 1k, and I am pretty sure their quality is better than a dell. Good Luck

OFF TOPIC
I see the ZD8000 now has a configuration for the faster RAM. 533mhz.
Also the the X6000 still no 128 or 256 video card and 7200 rpm drive taken away.
-
Hey GWU,
Even though my power pin broke after about 14 months of easy use, I would reccomend the HP zx5000 series, 3.6Ghz, 512RAM, dedicated video RAM w/ATI card, DVD/CD burner/player, for the 5078cl when it came out 1 yr ago --- I love it, although it is somewhat large and heavy to carry, it is a desktop replacement you can lug around (buy and extra battery too) It has all the bells and whistles, even WIFI 80211g (you will need it, if only to have a home/dorm wirelss network so you have no wires dragging around (sell bandwith to your buddies by assigning MAC addresses for a day/week/month if you have to pay for the broadband). Its nice to use it wherever with WiFi and now hotspots are all over, pull over, check your email!
Anyway, cannot say whether the power pin problem I had is a fluke or a problem, lets just hope it was a fluke. Its a great computer and not so large, like the zls with the added 10 key (those are too big).
Murph
If you want something that does it all, mp3, video, movies, burn DVD/CD, download videos/pictures and manipulate, it does it all (as well as word processing, probably could handle dragon easy so you can quit typing and start talking!).
I paid around -
Academic Purchase Program...
I am at the point to submit my order for a L2000 and I still don't see any discount at all.
Is it that the discount is only for specific models?
thx -
If you've applied and signed in, right off the bat you should see the APP discount. It's the little green apple off to the side of the price and means that the price indicated already has the discount calculated, there won't be like price - Academic discount - instant rebate - mail in = total price.

is this available in Canada as well?
-
Whenever I try to login with my student userid and password, the page just reloads or i get "The page cannot be displayed" cannot be displayed error???
-
jmsnyc,
Your APP login and password only works on the HP education website. Login here:
https://eclipse.ebus.hp.com/dn/jsp/products_you.jsp -
-
Use Mozilla Firefox instead. I also had same problem with Internet Explorer earlier.
-
I also think that the APP login sometimes needs eds_ in front of the normal login name.
I think its eds but it might be something slightly different like edp I dont remember but if you call the hp line they can let you know for sure. -
Is there a sales tax in every state or how does that work? I thought i read somewhere on their site that there wasn't sales tax everywhere but i can't find it anymore.
-
Sales Tax is only applicable in certain states - CA, GA, ID, MO, NY, TN, VA and WI....

How do you use this coupon?
HP coupon Save over $235 when you buy a Customizable HP Pavilion dv4000 Notebook no coupon code 2005-10-01
I tried but I never see anything about a code or anything. -
Anyone know if there are any coupons out now to save on the Compaq V2000z?
-
JMSNYC - auctually on the v2000z im purchasing it today - just wanted to tell you that its actually at its cheapest right now - a few weeks ago it was higher by almost $200 and thats when they had a $140 coupon. Im sure in the next few weeks a coupon will come out - but then they'll balance it out by adding in some extra costs.
SO if i were you i'd get it right now - for some reason the price is low - im able to get it with the student discount and 2 $50 rebates(1 instant, 1 mailin) on hpshopping.com.
And it comes to $850 roughly with ml-30turion, 60gb5400, 512MB, dvd-r/cd-r/12cellbattery!! plus prod ports and wireless!!! not bad!! -
how much discount for education program? i'm lookinag at DV 4000.
-
dietcokefiend DietGreenTeaFiend
Does the discount also apply to things like the small business grade laptops nc6200 series?
-
Hi.
Im trying to use the student discount but everytime I try to log in it just goes to page cannot be displayed. I tried putting eds_ before my email address to log in but that didnt work either. How do you get this to work? -
I've been buying Academic software for years. This includes software on specifically academic-only software sites. I purchased my CTO ZV6000 on HPShopping after registering on that site for the academic discount, in that case I saved an additional $100. It just happened to be the first time I've purchased "academic pricing" on hardware.
After registering as being eligible for academic pricing, when first loading the page at HPShopping, there was an additional graphic, "go to your academic site", or words to that effect, marked by a green apple. This gave me access to the exact same hardware, but the price would reflect the academic discount.
I am a nurse, at a major university, working in an outpatient cancer center; so far, far away from being in a classroom. All that is reguired to register at most sites (usually at the time of purchase), is a faxed copy of either my name tag or a redacted payroll document. Very easy. None of this having to say I was going to "use this in a classroom". Any employee of any academic institution should be eligible. For software from Microsoft or Corel (and many, many others...) this can mean savings of up to 70%. I've tried to spread the gospel on this. Try searching for Academic Software, although beware, some sites have better prices than others...as always, continue to be a smart shopper. Cheers, Carole-San Francisco -
Any new coupons out there that we, soon-to-be-owners, should know about?
Thanks! -
how much discount does the APP discount give? is it like 10% or 15% or $50 off? how does the discount work?
-
Yes, I as well am curious to know how big of a price difference an educational discount gives you, and how the process works. Does anyone know how much a Compaq V5000Z series notebook with:
AMD Turion ML-40
128mb ATI Radeon Xpress 200m
1x1024mb memory
80GB 5400 RPM HD
Bluetooth card
and 2 12-cell batteries would cost? (configured w/out discount as of 2/20/2006 as $1,126.99 [after $150 instant savings and $50 mail-in rebate])
Also, it says on the discount site that the educational discount only works for post-k12 educational institutions. Yet, when I went through the registration process, it showed my k12 high school as an option. It goes on to say something to the effect of "if hp finds your registration to be fraudulent, you have authorized us to charge you the difference in purchase price." Now, wouldn't you agree that I should just go for it, if that's all they are going to do? It says nothing about a surcharge or "we'll see you in court" type of thing, so I have nothing to lose, right? If I get away with the discount then that's great, and if they review my purchase and find out I'm just a highschooler, I am no worse off than if I hadn't even used the discount period. Right?
BTW, great site/forums, lots of info here. Sorry for such a lengthy post... -
about 6% savings for being student
-
Thanks a bunch!
-
this will turn my decision...
-
-
None of the coupons seem to work. Clicking the redeem links just link me to the HP website.
Also - Does anyone know why tax is showing up on my order. I live in Ohio... -
Yes, HP now is supposed to charge tax on their online store as well.(something to do with them selling their laptops through B&M stores) -
The student discount doesn't have my school listed... it's Pennsylvania State University.
-
Although they do have my high school... I guess that'll do.
-
Im kinda new here, but I applied for the student discount and im trying to purchase a v2000z, but the student discount does not show up at all. Is it due to the already low price of the laptop or is it something else?
-
When cutsomizing, you should see a Green Apple that says APP price next to it in the price bar.
