they really just take some money off the base, then upgrades are the same. So if you are getting a base model, you save more in terms of %.

Although it seems like the upgrades are the same, when they are added to the price, you'll notice that the increase isn't as high as it's supposed to be. So, therefore, the discount works on the whole unit. just not the base.

You save the same in terms of percentage.
The student discount is taken from your total, and the upgrade is added to your total.
So, you save 6% on a base system and you also save 6% on a $100 hard disk upgrade.

when you applied for the student program, did you give your clear indication of where your going? I applied for the program before picking the right college and got denied. After SIRing though I got accepted.

heres why we are seeing different figures, i was told at one point EPP and APP were the same discount. This is not true at all, i checked to see what sort of discount i got and it was quite different. EPP also works by giving you a better base price, but upgrades cost the same as normal hp store. It all depends on what company you're getting EPP through. Im going through a company that orders TONS of HP laptops for their business and has a very good relationship with HP. My company foots part of the bill and HP takes a slight hit because of the great contract they have through us (given, they are still making their money i'm sure)... ahh yes, buerocratic politics... gotta love it...
