Im not 100% sure this belongs in this forum area but here it goes:

I just bought a dv2700t and i got microsoft office basic 2007. I realize now that basic doesn't have powerpoint! As a college student i'm definitely going to need this program, is it possible to upgrade basic after i recieve my laptop? I called HP to ask them to upgrade me to home and student, but they say it is too late as my order has already been accepted. Any suggestions>?

MS Office is a program just like anything else, so yes it can be upgraded. You can also just purchase MS Powerpoint separately. I say you have two options:

    1. Buy a better version of office (home and student, ultimate, enterprise, etc) at your school or any other place that gives an academic discount (use your student status to your advantage whenever possible!). Some schools (colleges in particular) offer heavy discounts on academic software. My school gives out certain programs for free or ridiculously (!) cheap to its students.

    2. Give HP hell. As a former worker in retail, if you give any business enough noise you can get whatever you want within reason. I do not encourage this, but in your case I'd try canceling your order with HP and re-ordering with a better version of office if #1 doesn't work.

Well, you can always return the laptop within 21 days of receiving it for a refund. Then, you can place an order for a new one that has the version of office you want.

    Interestingly inappropriate name, btw.

Well this is my 3rd replacement laptop for 2 defective laptops from HP. I really liked my old HP which is why im sticking with them and not going to dell. I don't want to wait again for a new order to be completed so i am hopign that i can upgrade the office basic even though microsoft.com says basic is only available through OEM so i think that means i can't upgrade it to have powerpoint? Anyone know where i can buy powerpoint seperately or if anyone who went to my college, Fordham University, knows that i can buy it from them? Please help i hate being in these stupid dilemmas

You should be able to get the Academic versions of Office from any university. Just head on over to the campus bookstore and check it out. You'll end up spending about $130-150 or so for an academic version, I believe.

Ouch, that's true customer loyalty. Two defective laptops‽
I'm sure a school as big as Fordham has something. A simple google search led me to their site, which points to this.

Peel around that for a bit, see what you find :)

you guys are all definitely a big help, the only problem is i already spent $130 on the basic edition...i'm i really going to have to buy a whole suite to get powerpoint, because if that is the case i am just going to have to live with spending the cash, but if i can save money and not buy a new suite to get powerpoint that would be great!
