In The HP/Compaq forum because I'm particularly interested in the v2000z. Mods: feel free to move this thread to another section if you believe needed.
Hopefully the thread seems self-explanatory. This should be helpful for those wishing to try undervolting or for those who would like to test out new and superior settings.
Simply provide information about your:
-CPU
-Undervolt Settings used
-Computer Model Details
-Advantages from settings (battery life difference, etc)
-Any other information you believe would be helpful
Additional Information
Undervolting is obtained by adjusting the default settings on a machine in order to lower its heat and power output. This allows it for a computer to have longer battery life and cool down easier so that heatsink fans turn on less and stay quieter. Undervolting is also believed to prolong the life of a machines hardware.
By itself, undervolting should not lower a computers performance, but things done to make undervolting more efficient and effective such as underclocking and changing power savings options will.
Software for undervolting
RightMark CPU Clock Utility (RMClock) is a small GUI application designed for real-time CPU frequency, throttling and load level monitoring and on-the-fly adjustment of the CPU performance level of the supported CPUs via processor's power management model-specific registers (MSRs). In automatic management mode it continuously monitors the CPU usage level and dynamically adjusts the CPU frequency, throttle and/or voltage level as needed.

I have modified my 15x mutliplier (15 x 133 = 2.0GHz) from 1.356V to 1.148V, using Notebook Hardware Control, and was Prime95 stable O/N. Runs games on 1280 on high details with this voltage. I tried 1.100V and Prime95 crashed within ~1h. 1.000V locked the machine at 15x.
I run 100% 24/7 because I like to fold protein. Temps went from 70-75C max at stock voltage to ~56-60C max when undervolting. Quite a difference if you ask me. When I'm idle on battery (reading or Word) the undervolted temps run from 46-52C. Highly recommended.
Good luck all.
