Has anyone successfully installed WinXP for the HP dv2500t?
I know there is a guide but it mentions it might not work well for 2500t users. I just got my laptop and I already hate Vista.
-
Just read the first sticky and follow it. The Pavilions are all the same.
-
-
It doesn't matter. Use all guides at your own risk.
-
Creating my recovery disks now, and I will be installing XP pro on my dv2500t when its done.
-
I already have a Windows XP slipstreamed with Service Pack 2. Doesn't SP2 already come with SATA drivers? Or do I need to slipstream special SATA drivers for laptops?
-
Edit: nevermind, the guide doesn't mention how to create the backup discs, but I found it in the start menu... not so newbie friendly. :\ -
-
I have successfully installed Windows XP for DV2500T and have been using it since June. I haven't had any problems or issues yet.
-
-
you are welcome!!! I have Intel GMA X3100 graphic card and I got the driver from intel website. All the other drivers for this laptop are working like a charm. No problems at all.
-
Will the Media Center remote become useless if I downgrade to XP? Or would there be softwares that still support it? Also what about the QuickPlay keys?
-
Just finished a fresh XP Pro install..issues that came up were driver related at least with my dv2500.
Audio: Conexant High Def Audio
Modem: HDAudio soft data fax modem with smarCP is what vista called it. Found the drivers in Vistas swsetup/modem folder, they seemed to work, installed correctly and modem diagnostics returned some values(not sure what they are).
Network card: Marvell Yukon
HP quicklaunch buttons
Thanks again to a forum members site Provides links to correct dv2500t drivers on that page. Sorry I forgot the persons name, but their site was very helpful!
I didnt need to install the syntapic driver or webcam driver XP Pro sp2 picked those up. Still seeing what else needs attention but as far as hardware all seems to be working so far...its late so im off to bed. -
^ Thanks for the info! It's more assuring knowing others had pretty good success with it. I'm in the winxp setup right now...
Do I need to make more than one partition if I want to have QuickPlay DirectPlay to still function? -
I need to update the Graphics card drivers. I don't see the Nvidia drivers in Hackez's driver packs; only the Graphics Media Accelerator - when I ran it, it said it's not compatible with my computer. I have the 8400M GS. Where can I get the proper drivers? The sticky guide said the driver's pack includes it but I don't see it.
-
Thanks for mentioning my site. Latest steps for the graphic drivers are these.
Go to --> http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=14302 and download the driver and modded inf. Run the driver program which will extract the files to your hard drive. Next download the modified INF file and place it in the directory where you extracted the driver files overwriting the INF file. There is a walk thru here http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=33 Run the install and it will use the modified INF file.
There my be a newer version but that one will work and it's what I'm using.
You're almost there Boamuro.
As for Quickplay, I don't care about that. To get that working again involves creating a small partition and installing software into it. The Quicklaunch buttons will work once you install the driver for that.
Check your device manager to see what drivers still have a yellow triangle. -
Driver is in the pack, not the media accelerator. I can't remember what its called though but it was a tweaked version. I have the Nvidia 8400M gs also. Or just use the link provided by Robvia(thanks for all the great site info btw!)
-
Thanks guys. The graphics card drivers installed perfectly. I'm just having trouble getting the audio and the New Hardware Found is bugging me about Modem drivers too.
The yellow triangle is only in 'Other Devices' for
Audio Devices on High Definition Audio Bus
Base System Device
Base System Device
Base System Device
Ethernet Controller
Fingerprint Sensor
Modem Device on High Definition Bus -
We should be able to fix all this easily.
You can switch over to my guide if you want and go in the same order as I did. From my guide when I was installing, we have the following.
Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus = Realtek High Definition Audio
Base System Device = Ricoh 5-in-1 Card Reader Drivers
Ethernet Controller = Realtek Nic
Fingerprint Sensor = AuthenTech Inc. AES2501A Personal Identification Device
HP Integrated Module = HP Integrated Bluetooth Module
Modem Device on High Definition Audio Bus = Motorola SM56
Ok, so the Audio Devices on High Definition Audio Bus is your sound driver. But first you have to install the UAA driver.

Your sound driver may be different since it's the DV2500T. Try this one and don't worry that it says AMD.

Base system device is the 5 in 1 card reader.

Your network adapter is here.

Finger print sensor would be a driver and the program

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...softwareitem=ob-49006-1&jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN
For the modem try this, but leave your SWSETUP folder in the drive from Vista. It will say it needs a file, you surf to the CD, go to the modem folder, and it will find what it needs.

Robvia, THANK YOU SO MUCH! All the yellow exclamation points are gone. I'm sooooo happy to have XP instead of Vista; it boots up so much faster and everything!
For the Modem, I just navigated to SwSetup\modem\V32 and clicked on the setup.exe file (I didn't need to install the 'Software and Drivers for HP Integrated Module with Bluetooth Wireless' first)
Also, the finger print sensor that HP built is terrible. I'm trying to scan my finger (my fingers are complete dry, btw) but it keeps saying it's poor quality.
What would happen if I press the QuickPlay button? The sticky guide had a note that if I press it, it won't work anymore? Would pressing the DVD button launch the default DVD software or does that become useless too?
Also, is there a third party plugin or software that will allow to use the HP DVD remote? Or does that become useless too? -
can you email me that setup.exe somehow? -
I know other users have posted guides that were helpful on how to install Win XP, however, I made a guide for the HP dv2500t that builds a slipstream disk with all the drivers for the dv2500t. So you can pop in the slipstreamed Windows XP disk and it installs everything for you. This greatly simplifies the process and takes away all of the hunting for drivers and endless reboots.
