I'm having a lot of burn errors with my optical drive and, upon second glance, it appears that somewhere along the line, I ended up with what appears to be the wrong driver... and I can't find the correct one anywhere and it's NOT available via the backup discs or the HP website (at least, not specifically what's listed on my order form):

SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-R/RW with Double Layer Support

Can anybody point me in the right direction?

The drivers for a DVD drive, like a HDD, are built into the operating system. You don't install third party drivers unless it's for special functions like Lightscribe.

Well, what's listed on what I ordered is a "SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-R/RW with Double Layer Support" and what I have set in the device manager is "Slimtype DVD A DS8A1P ATA Device". In either case, the burning is consistently screwed up. I'm also led to believe that there are issues as the recovery manager claims there is no writing drive (when attempting to burn a second set, after moving the appropriate files outlined elsewhere in the forums.).

The laptop in question is a dv9500 line so if anybody that hasn't futzed around with it too much can say what their laptop reports, it'd be much appreciated?

Slimtype DVD A DS8A1P ATA Device is your DVD drive's manufacture and model number. SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-R/RW with Double Layer Support is the functions that HP tells you the drive have. Heck they could give you a bad brand DVD drive if they dont care at all.

I cant help on this. i included the lightscribe on my drive and it is manufactured by LG.
