My friend just a got a new laptop, he got the T7500.

Is it possible to swap out the T7500 for the T9300 , I mean it's the same chipset. All you gotta do is open the case take the old proc out and put the new one in, that simple.

If someone can tell me otherwise, please do.

Yep, just "that easy". Like replacing the engine on a car - take the old one out and put the new one in.

Yep, just clean off the paste and put new on. Really simple...provided you can access the CPU.

Isn't there the possibility that you may need to do a BIOS upgrade? Just wondering.

Thanks for the prompt response, I just wanted to make sure everything is the same, I.E. Chipset, Socket type.

I need to buy thermal paste?

Arctic Silver is the best right?

Yeah, most people just use Arctic Silver 5. Although AS Ceramique also works well.

On a level from 1-10 what level of experience would you need to open to case and apply the compound.

I've opened around 3 laptops all together and have experience in re-soldering a power pin to the motherboard. Is that enough?

Processor transplants are usually not worth it unless you really want that extra edge.

You need to buy arctic silver 5 and articlean. Articlean cleans and dissolves the pads or previous thermal paste properly.

You might wanna do the BIOS update for the new penryn chips before you install it

Again, this could void your warranty.

edit: I read somewhere that not all penryn chips are compatible with the santa rosa platform or something like that. Im guessing the low end chips are fine

Forget it then. Thanks a lot for all the help guys. I'll just call HP and deal with them, I seem to be pretty good at that.

To tell you the truth me friend isn't really happy. I told him I'll do it for him, but now I told him it isn't worth it. Hey what can you do.

I told him what you said flipfire, that he doesn't need it. He told me he wants to be "On top of the game" oh well, sucks for him then.

He should have researched before buying a laptop. T7500 is more than enough power anymore than that and it will drain the battery easier at those high clock speeds.

I could have waited for the new penryns to come out but i still bought a t7500 anyway

Yea I hear you, I initially bought the T7500 but as soon as the penryn came out, I swapped my laptop with the new one. It was the same price anyway because I was within the 21 day limit and the penryn was the same price as when I bought the T7500 for. So why not.
