Hi, I want to swap my T9300 for the X7900 core 2 extreme, I'm very close to doing it, I just wanted to know if anyone has had experience with this proc. or how hard will it be.

The main thing I'm concerned about is heat, I will undervolt it, but do you think that my laptop will be able to handle that beast?

it depends on if it even fits. also the size of the proc. it may be too big to fit.

also, unless your doing some heavy video encoding, I don't think you'll see much of a performance difference.

Well that's kind of why I wanted to put it in. Well It's the mobile version. Why wouldn't it fit. Its the same socket I think.

I was just thinking that it might not fit as in be too big, physically. If you have the possibility of returning the x7900(assuming you purchased it seperately), then I'd say try it out and see.

I think you would be better off with Core 2 Extreme X9000. It runs cooler than X7900 and has 6MB of cash, which will make a big difference if you are video incoding and stuff....

I second the notion for a X9000, it still may not physically fit but it's a better choice than the now outdated X7900.

I'm not sure about Yitzter's, but I know for sure, that you can use any CPU from Santa Rosa series in Dell XPS M1730.

The best HP could do for my replacement laptop was the T7250 2.0ghz. Does the t9300 have the same socket and interchangeable with the T7250? I thought I read that they were but the different architecture worries me.

Yall notice the DV2800t "artist edition". No fingerprint option but you get a t8300 option and different paint job and sleeve.

@j3oomerang. Yes you can put the T9300 instead of the T7250. Most mobile cpu's that are santa rosa can be swapped.

Intel Extreme CPUs are worthless in laptops. Most people go that route for the unlocked multiplier. Unless you plan to overclock your laptop to the point of melting things, I would highly recommend not doing this. You can get cheaper penryns with the same amount of cache on chip.

Why would it melt things. All you need is a really good laptop cooler! It was designed for laptops, remember.

Montevina will use Socket B, so you can swap between Montevina penryns, but not Santa Rosa penryns.

No clue, only reason I have an AMD machine is because it was only $849 and had most of the stuff I was looking for(mainly the 8400gs). Would've gotten Intel if OfficeMax offered it, even if it was a little more expensive. But it was still a huge upgrade from my old ze2315us.
