My computer won't automatically switch graphics when unplugged to the Intel chip, and it won't let me switch it manually I can click the power saving GPU all I want and it wont let me switch, only way is for me to restart the computer... Any suggestions? (I have the latest drivers)

There is no error message, I click the button to manually switch and nothing happens... Also, I have a brand new Envy 14 w/ radiance, sorry I forgot to mention.

Did you recently update CCC and your drivers? After I did yesterday I had the same problem and a reboot fixed it.

Yeah sometimes you have to reboot to get it working. Also make sure to update drivers and stuff.

The thing is when theres a program using the GPU then it wont switch. So all programs have to be closed for the most part.

I received my Envy 14 last week and have had the same problems on occasion.

I've found that sometimes it gets confused and really has switched even though a program (like HL2.exe) will say you're attempting to run it with onboard video.

I've also found in some instances you can click Intel and it'll activate the 5650 when the Radeon button isn't causing it to switch.

I've only had to restart it once when it was being stubborn but maybe I just need to update my drivers....

Have you ever had an issue with the display backlight not responding until restart?

Your backlight will start changing again if you do this:

1.) Make sure you set the computer NOT to sleep when closing the lid

2.) Close the lid. Then open it.

It happens to me sometimes...I havent really figured out the cause. Seems random. Sometimes it lets me switch, sometimes it doenst. Either way it always fixes after a quick restart. Glad you got your problem fixed :D
