I use an SD card for my backups and it always remains in the computer. Once in a while I need to switch to a different card for a few minutes. I use the safely remove hardware procedure to remove the card. When I insert the other card there is a double tone but the card does not mount. It does not show up in "computer". I must restart the computer to have it mount and then do the exact same procedure to switch back to the original card. I am using Vista.

What can I do to prevent this? Is there a way to remount without restarting the computer?

I have discovered the solution. The problem only occurs if the card is plugged in when the computer is started. As long as I only plug and remove after startup it works fine. If the card is there at startup it can't be switched.
