Is it possible to do a system recovery without having the discs on a compaq presario????

Just wondering as i've tried recovering the system from the recovery manager in windows, then the computer restarts then I get an error message.

    thanks

Depending on the error, can you try repairing the [vista?] boot record with a vista repair disk? Sometimes this works. Search for "Vista Recovery Disk" and burn the .iso for your architecture.

I also like NeoSmart's "EasyBCD" for making a backup of the boot record. It has a repair utility you could try.

My goto thing is the System Rescue Disk which boots you into linux and gives you access to GParted for editing parititions. You can at least see if the partition table thinks your HDD is what you expect.

All those things are free (I'm cheap!)

    Hope something helps.

Thanks, but I've managed to get a windows 7 disc (at last), and have done a clean install, so I have a nice fresh system. As I've got the windows 7 media, I've ridded the system of the recovery partition (not recommended for everyone, and not something I would recommend), so if I need to reinstall vista it's a clean install every time without the bloat ware.
