I just started to stress test my 6910p a bit and was very surprised at the results. 60*C idle, 81*C and climbing after a 2 minute Orthos small-FFT load. That is incredibly hot to me since my Q6600 with a 3.7Ghz OC barely hits 80*C coretemp after 4hours of priming.

Would it be worth it to disassemble the case and remount the CPU with AS5?

Wow thats... that's hot... Mine gets to around 65C when under load and maybe 45C when idle. AS5 would definitely be a good idea but if it's that hot there's gotta be more. The heatsink may not be in properly, poor ventilation, might wanna try using some canned air and cleaning the fans and vents. That's really odd. Might wanna undervolt the thing too...

if its under warranty perhaps you should contact HP about this after you ensure that you have cleared the vents and made sure its getting good airflow

Haha yeah. This notebook is only about 2 weeks old...not even long enough to start building dust....I've made sure the airflow around the laptop was clean, but I was freaked when I saw Orthos turning my notebook into a hibachi.

I also took a quick peek through the BIOS but didn't even see any setting to undervolt it....maybe I'll take another peek...

You undervolt via a program called RMClock, search the forums, many topics about how to do it but it wont reduce your temps drastically, more like a few degrees
