My friend asked me if I could help him figure out what is wrong with his tablet notebook. The images that appear on the screen are boxy and messed up as you can see in the pics. He does not know what happened or what caused it.
Could anyone give me any advice as to what could be wrong?
btw, dont mind that line across the pic.

A few things to better help you:

    1) What is the systems model number/product specifications?
    2) What anti-virus/anti-malware program is he using?
    3) What was he doing just prior and when this happened? Was there a trend that lead to it or was it something that happened suddenly?

    2. Not sure since everything is fuzzy
    3. He is unsure what happened, but it did happen suddenly. He said he came home and it was just like that one day. He doesnt know if his brother played with or dropped it or if it went bad by itself.

    Thanks for the additional information...

I would say there are three possibilities:

    1) It was dropped and something in the screen screwed up
    2) Something in the screen went out on its own
    3) He has a virus

Out of those three, I would say probably the last one seeing as the first two wouldn't cause the symmetric box pattern shown in your pics. I would recommend using the recovery discs for it to reformat the system back to factory box condition and then install a good anti-virus such as Kaspersky. Hopefully, that will fix your issue. Lots of virus try to cause the inability of the user to communicate with the system to remove them so they can do as much information hunting as possible. I have run into a few trojans that also reproduced a screen image like that on other computers. Granted, when I saw something very similar to this, it was on a desktop, but a virus is a virus to a Windows based system.

Thanks for the help. I will see if he has the recovery disk. One thing, would it be possible at all to clean up the HD and remove the viruses without losing all of his info?
Would it also be possible for the video card or something of that nature to be bad?
If so, how would I diagnose it?
He did say he had stuff on there that he wanted to retain.

    R.O.F.L......

BBGus if you think that's a virus then you are terribly mistaken.

Bimmeracer it's the video card. It's screwed up. It could be one of many problems; vRAM/GPU/etc.

You'll have to send it in to get it replaced if the video card is integrated. It could be that the video card is overheating. It could be driver errors.
