I'm running Vista Enterprise 64bit on my TC4400 and have 4GB installed. The BIOS recognizes all 4GB, but Windows only recognizes 3447MB. I've read about a Memory remap or Memory hole that some system boards and/or BIOSes have, but couldn't find anything like that in the BIOS. I assume that the "Missing" memory is caused by the video memory and other system devices. Is there any way to get the full 4GB available?

strange thing. vista 64 should see the whole 4 GB.

Unless you have used the 4GB switch for the kernel i don´t see any other reason why your laptop does not see the 4GB.
the 4 GB switch can only be activated manually, and i guess you have not done this.

and the bios is the latest version ?

Yep, latest BIOS. It did this out of the box, so to speak.

ahm, wait, how about your graphics card. how much memory does it show ?

i guess i have overlooked that one when i wrote the last reply. modern graphics cards make use of the ram as some kind of additional graphics memory. if your graphics card does show around 552 mb more than it is supposed to have, you will have the problem sorted out.

I doubt its his vram; many people have dedicated cards, and even if he didnt, isnt ram dynamically allocated to vram only when needed, including IGPs? If this is the case, then i doubt hes gonna see his vram using THAT much ram.

nope. the graphics card or igp gets its share by the amount of available ram.

The video card shows 256MB, and it's part of the Intel 945GM Express Chipset, so there's anohter 256MB that's unaccounted for.

Edit: Just noticed that I posted this in the "Notebook Review" forums instead of the "Tablet PC Review" Forums

So then youre saying that my 8600m has its 256m of vram PLUS its 768 (or whatever) of turbocache?

I understand it for IGP now that i think about it, but not necessarily for Dedicated cards, btw, does the OP have integrated or dedicated vram?

if it supports the hypermemory or turbocache.... yes , but the amount depends on the amount of memory installed, but basicly yes.

.... please read the faq concerning graphics cards in the gaming section...

There has been some debate in the past about Intel's 945 chipsets being able to utilize all 4GBs of ram within Windows, even with a 64bit os. Your experience could be another example of this limitation.....

because Windows Vista SP1 is designed to read how much RAM is INSTALLED, not the amount of RAM that is available. its only fooling us :p

Check this attachement. This will answer all your questions
    (HP nx9420 Bios v F1.8 the original bios from 2006) Vista SP1 x64
After I first intall the RAM i've made a memory check from bios
When I had 2GB of ram in Task manager it shows only 1,4GB, but when using demanding software the all ram is used. I,ve made test and it goes up to 1,8GB (when I had 2GB)
