Hi Everyone- I just bought a DV2000Z and just installed Ultimate Spiderman.

The graphics was a bit choppy at first until I made several changes. I restarted the computer and pressed F10 to enter the bios. The shared video memory was set to 64MB which I changed to 128MB. I also updated the video and NVIDIA chipset drivers. To finish it off I performed a defragmentation.

Does anyone have any tips to optimize the video card settings for video games?

    Thanks ahead for the advice.

Cant think of anything else other than what you have done. Overclocking would have been an option but since the GPU itself is pretty weak you wont see any tangible improvements in gaming performance.

ninja, the 6150 has 64mb of its own ram (atleast thats what I have been able to ascertain from the tech docs) but anything past that is just system ram that it is allocating for itself. For instance in my DV6000CL (uses the same video card) the max it can do is 288 mb of video ram. anyway, my point to all of this, after that first 64mb of video ram, the extra ram that it uses is considerably slower and wont offer very good perormance.

btw, where did you find updated drivers for the chipset and video. As of a week ago, nvidia didnt have a single drive available for it.

The 6150Go does not have any dedicated memory of its own. All of it is shared with the RAM. Plus the OP has 2GB RAM, so setting aside the 128MB shouldnt hurt his performance(any difference will be negligible).

So putting it up to the 128mb is good or bad?

Well, it really depends on what you want to do & how much of RAM you have. If you have just 512MB RAM, then set it to the lowest. 1GB then you can set it to 64MB or 128MB if you find any improvements in any of the games you play. With 2GB RAM it wont hurt to leave it at the maximum. This works fine for XP. For Vista it might be good option to leave it at either 64MB or 128MB assuming you are running 1GB or more RAM.

Interesting. NVIDIA's tech docs were a bit decieving.

I've got 2G of ram and windows XP. I guess I will go max out the shared memory allocated then.

    Awesome, thank you very much.

    Thanks everyone for your feedback.

I was able to find the updated drivers at: http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/support.html

So far running Ultimate Spider isn't that bad. Plus I just ordered X-Men and hope to have that installed next week.

    Hmmm...

Looks like the memory is Dynamic. I can't change it, but it changes depending on what my PC does.
I have the DV6000Z. Weird how the 2000 you can change it but not mine... Unless I'm a complete n00b.

I got X-Men installed and at first it would lock up within 30 seconds of playing. I finally got it to work nicely after setting the Visual Effects to Adjust for best performance and turning off most of the individual 3-D settings. The graphics is pretty darn good for my specs. I'm pleased with my purchase.

Hope this post has been helpful.
