I usually check every Windows update and read the descriptions before deciding whether to accept the update or not; however, I was in a bit of a hurry and accepted several updates in one go without checking.
Sure enough, one of them had something to do with Synaptics and resulted in disabling tap zones in the touchpad.
I use the upper right corner of the touchpad for secondary click (right mouse click). Unfortunately, following this windows update, the tap zones feature is no longer available as any sort of option in the synaptics device settings / properties menu.
Any suggestions as to how to get the tap zones feature back? Is there a separate synaptics driver I should install from HP? Should I try installing this "generic" driver from Synaptics?

I found a fix for this here.
In case anyone else encounters this problem, here is how to fix it:
1. Open regedit.exe
2. Navigate to ‘HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Synaptics \ SynTPCpl \ Controls \ 7Tapping \ Tap Zones’
3. Delete the key ‘Visibility’
As soon as you open the Synaptics Pointing Device Properties / Device Settings menu again, Tap Zones are now visible.
Why on Earth HP/Synaptics would make this setting invisible by default is a mystery to me. -
Thanks for that,
they're disabled by default in the latest HP drivers from the drivers thread as well which is strange. Are the windows update drivers newer than the hp ones - HP drivers are version 15.3.21.0 dated 19/08/2011
