This is the first and only problem I seem to have encountered after manually installing SP1 on my fairly new DV9774ca laptop a few weeks back. I open Task Manager today and all I have is the window with no tabs at the top. It opens with the task pane so I can see whats running, it has the Status column beside the tasks and there are the End Task, Switch To and New Task buttons at the bottom. Theres no way to close Task Manager, as in theres no X to exit, but I can right click on the icon by the clock to close Task Manager.
I have rebooted in case it was a one off, its still the same.

Is this just me? The only change I have made was to install SP1 about two to three weeks ago. I had the laptop maybe 6 to 7 weeks now.

And next question, how do I reinstall Task Manager so it works properly? Its not in the add & remove Windows Features in Control Panel.

    Thanks.

You can't uninstall/reinstall the Task Manager...its a core part of the OS. You will need to reload Windows and do a fresh install with SP1 immediately following before you load any more software.

It's ok, don't worry. I though something happened to my task manager also after SP1 , but all you have to do is double-click the top area of the manager, and it will return to normal.

How do I let Microsoft know about this so they take it serious, fix it? ...try get it fixed. You know when theres a crash there is usually a window to send info to Microsoft, but this is not a crash.

Dont worry, its not a crash or a bug. This feature of the task manager has existed before SP1 or Vista. It is present in XP and 2000 as well. You can double click the outer edge of the task manager to induce this effect(tiny footprint mode).
