when i got my envy 17 the taskbar used to be transparent. Now, it is a solid grey color and looks very bad. I cant figure out how to get it back to its transparent state. any help would be appreciated.

Right click on desktop>personalize>Window color> check Enable transparancy

Try System Properties -> Advanced System Settings -> Performance

Switch everything to "adjust for best performance," and then switch back to "adjust for best appearance"

Personally, I have everything switched to best performance, because it helps to reduce my boot and shutdown times, so I have Aero, etc., disabled.

Did you ever consider it was because of your wallpaper? Why don't you change it to blue or black and see what happens.

If that fails just do a system restore if it is really bugging you.

Don't you store all your data on the D drive?

Maybe it is because of your error in restoring before is the cause of your present problem?

Then do a clean install and say farewell to these problems you are having.

Invest in Acronis Drive Image program. That way if you mess up your system you don't have to start from scratch.

What you can do so you don't lose any programs or files is to do a upgrade install over your current win 7 install. If you have win7 media (see page 1 of owner's lounge for links to legal download of win 7 media) you simply reinstall the OS as an upgrade.

Here's a primer showing you how. Choose "using the upgrade install option."
    Installing and reinstalling Windows 7

Before you do it, just to be sure, you can use a free imaging program to back up the partition to another drive. Macrium Reflect: Macrium Reflect FREE Edition - Information and download

Isn't this an issue with the Stardock MyColors software (that original HP ENVY 17 theme)? Try to set it back to ENVY theme and then return to normal Windows theme using the Stardock software, perhaps this will help. I would try it.
