    Primary goal: clarity

The following is taken from the HP manual for my 6710b detailing the steps required to upgrade the memory:

"The computer has two memory module compartments. The primary memory module compartment is located under the keyboard. The expansion memory module compartment is located on the bottom of the computer.

The memory capacity of the computer can be upgraded by adding a memory module to the vacant expansion memory module slot or by upgrading the existing memory module in the primary memory module slot."

It's the second paragraph that gets me. Now, my assumption is that I can replace either of the two 1GB memory modules that were installed at the factory with a 2GB module for a total of 3GB. However, the way they worded it, you should only either add a new module to the empty expansion module compartment or (as would apply in my case) upgrade the one in the primary compartment.

So, here I am (unnecessarily, would be my guess, but I prefer not to guess where a $1200 computer is concerned) to ask for confirmation. Does it matter which module gets upgraded when both are in use?

No sir! But the bottom one is easier to get to so I guess that's why they word it like that. Or to confuse you. Or both :p

    Wow that is quite confusing.

Look at the service manual and video guide instead.

I assume you're talking about the owner's manual CD that came with it. It's got videos, too? Nice. I'll have to check it out.

Truth be told, I cracked open the expansion memory compartment to find only one SODIMM, so I assumed the second was under the keyboard. I mainly went to the HP website to see if there were any tricks to removing the keyboard, but then I made the mistake of reading enough to start second-guessing.

    Thanks, folks.

Wow, that's a nice resource. You wouldn't have a link to a replacement parts price list for the 6710b, would you? I'm not talking about the consumer accessories they sell like memory and USB NIC's. I mean things like the bluetooth module, sim board, PC card cage assembly, etc.

My laptop P/N is FN344UC, but I've not been able to find it listed *anywhere*, not even on HP's site. Should that bother me?
