I might as well be the only one who has this notebook. But since it's a dv5000 variant,I might as well ask this question.
On the right side of the notebook, just above the headphones and microphone socket, there's a remote slid in it. I believe that it's teh PC Card slot. Does anyone have any idea what the remote is for? It doesn't work for quickplay,it doesn't work for media center, then what in the WWW is it for? Is it an alternative to the plastic slabs that have been traditionally covering the PCMCIA slot? If anyone has any idea as to what this weightless plastic thing is supposed to do,please please tell me!

I have a 5000t and the remote works fine. It seems that the area that recieves the signal is in the front of the computer by the hard drive lights. Also I had to put the battery that came with it in the underside. It is nice if you want to use your computer as a tv or stereo. It works just like the Quickplay buttons on your computer

So that's it! I knew it HAD to be something darned stupid that I overlooked(although the battery seemed to be oddly inserted),since I had walked around the whole system pressing random buttons on the remote
Thanks a bunch! -
I use the remote for my dv1000t all the time!
Very nice feature. Love being able to lie in bed, listening to music, and change songs, increase/decrease volume, pause, etc.
Great accessory! (but yea... you need to insert the batteries)
Teh dv5163cl remote question
