I'm almost ready to buy, but I want to know if there are any major problems or dealbreakers with the 9700t.. I've heard about overheating and randomly shutting off. I'm also considering the Dell XPS 1530. The Dell is about $150 more, but has a better warranty.

Yeah.. that's the thing.. the Dell warranty is a lot better than the HP.. and I'd have to pay almost $300 to get an HP warranty comparable to Dell's :(

All the HP extended service plans for notebooks, in the $300 range, are for 3 years (or 2 year Accidental Damage); Dell is offering a 3 year factory warranty, at no extra charge?

By the way, I have a DV9700T and am pretty happy with it; my only real complaints are:

    Keyboard seems a little flimsy/mushy
CD/DVD drive is unusually noisy during seeking/readinf (IMO)

DV9700 is one of the best on the market in it's class. I would never buy a laptop just because of repair service. Are you really waiting for your laptop to break to contact repair service??? :)

Best looking. The only "bad" thing i can think of, is it needs a better video card. Other than that it looks great, and performs well(some may say its "hot"...literally, lol).

Do you use a cooling pad? I got the 7200 RPM, and I know that can produce more heat.

I ordered it thinking it would be better for capturing HD content, but now I realize I probably shouldn't have. I'd have to cancel the whole order and place it again to change that, wouldn't I?

Video card could be better, but it overclocks VERY well, so just OC it and you should be fine running games on medium and HD videos should be absoultely fine. Another thing is that the screen options are limited, 1440 x 900 for a 17 inch is almost unnacceptable in my view. 1680x1050 is minimal, and 1920x1200 would be superb. No RAID options (well I guess it is just a consumer grade notebook), build quality is pretty bad, it creaks, the battery may be a little off (sticks out about 1~2 mm on corners), feels flimsy, etc.

In its class, it is a very good laptop, but it's starting to get dated.

Should I cancel my order and go with the XPS 1530?
