    Hey guys :) Noob here..

I've been searching everywhere for a concrete answer and i don't seem to be able to find one, so i joined here.

So.. i have a Compaq CQ62-225SA.. and i was watching a video earlier, laptop on wooden desk and i happened to touch the side and it was incredibly hot, so i ran Speccy.. and my CPU's temperature was running at 90C(!!!) and my Motherboard temperature was in the 70s.. needless to say i shat brix! :D

I don't have a laptop cooler or stand. The ambient room temperature is probably around 21-25C. Anyway, i found a little block of wood (2.5cm x 2cm x 1.5cm) to prop up the back of my laptop to get some air circulating underneath it. That was half hour ago.

Ran Speccy again.. and the results are still a little alarming...

Do i have anything to be concerned about here? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Many thanks :)

Intel Celeron 900 doesn't support Speedstep technology so it runs at full speed all the time. That's why you could see almost 30% drop in temp when you even slightly increased airflow: at least the cooler works and it isn't blocked with dust so far.

    tripledistilled,

Let me guess, your fan runs constantly?

Under normal circumstances, CPU temp should be ~40-50C and the fan should not be on constantly.

Chances are that the fan vent is blocked. If you have a pet then pet hair can accumulate in the fan vent in no time.

I would download the service manual from hp.com and disassemble the laptop and clean the fan vent. I've done this with a few laptops and I've seen vents completely blocked by pet hair and dust.
