I read some of the reviews of the these two laptops on this forum and it seems the 8510p runs cooler than the 8510w, is this correct? Is this due to the HD 2600 being cooler than the 570M? How much of a difference in temperatures is there?

BTW, we all know the HD 2600 is underclocked in the 8510p. What about the 570M in the 8510w? Is it running at stock speeds?

Does anyone have both to compare? Is that what you need. I only have the 8510w and it seems to me to run pretty cool.
I posted the temps I got somewhere here.

    couple of questions:
do you think the fact that 8510 as a descent battery life due to the underclocked HD2600?
If so, would that apply to the ASUS F3SA-a1, which as the HD2600 with 512mg?
Because i m very intersted in getting the F3SA but they dont seen to offer the 9 cell option, as a result, the batt life aint good. So i am wondering if theres a utility for me to under clock the GPU when its on battery, and overclock it when gaming plugged.

    Thanks

A question if I may, please. What software did you use to measure temps for the HD2600? I've not been able to find anything.

    I used Speedfan 4.32.

Kain: I don't really know what to say about the temps. I did however check the T61p review ( http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=3889) and their 570m temperatures look more normal: 40-50 idle and 80+ under load.

Granted it's a different system but design can only change so much when it comes to heat dissipation. All I can suggest is perhaps finding other reviews on the 8510w/p or T61p and checking temperatures to compare.

Cebo: Asus is notorious for short battery life (in higher end laptops anyway), and it's one of the reasons I ended up skipping them. I'm really not sure how much of a change in battery life it would translate into. But even if it's 10-20%, it still won't make the 3.5 to 4 hours I get with the 8510p. There is a thread on underclocking in the gaming forum I think, so you could check that out.

    Thanks alot fo the tip.
Ya hp is awsome with the batt life. I used an older pavillion with a 12 cell batt. It lasted 7 hours!!!

too bad 8510p does have a eSATA.

i will looking more in the underclocking
do you have a linkg for that thread?

    Yeah I found it here:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=124420

It's actually about undervolting your CPU so you can OC your GPU, but I figure you could just undervolt CPU + declock GPU...maybe? Haha sorry, I'm not really an expert in that area :p That thread has a lot of working info in it though. GL!
