    Hi all,

I bought a HP Pavillion dv200t with the following config 2 weeks ago, directly from HP website.

    Intel(R) Core(TM) Duo T2250 (1.73 GHz/2MB L2Cache)
Genuine Windows Vista Home Basic (32-bit)
1GB Memory; 120 GB hard drive; 14.1" screen
    128MB NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) Go 7200
    Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network w/Bluetooth
    6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery

My problem is that ever since i have begun using the laptop, it gets really "hot" (not just warm as others have reported on this forum) on the left wrist rest area just above the hard drive. The fan is running always , but the hard drive button is not always on/running and there are really no "heavy duty" processes that are shown running in the task manager.

I also contacted the HP customer support on 2 occassions via chat option. They asked me to unistall the options listed under "battery" ind evice manager, run a newer version of the BIOS and install the power management service. All these have not made any difference to the heat problem.

Ok, so i want to know if anyone else has had the same problem. If so, what is the solution you have found or is returning/replacement ( i still have time for this) my only option? Btw, how is the mail-in service of HP? do they diagnose and fix the prob at all? i have hrd otherwise.

So, please help me in this matter.

    Thank you.

    Cheers!

Check your background tasks and your start-up items. Is it possible that something keeps the CPU at max all the time? Is your speedstep enabled?
Use Taskmanager for the background tasks and CPU usage and MSCONFIG for start-up items. Uups, I don't know if msconfig exists under Vista...
Get Coretemp to measure the temperature of the CPU. Check the temp of the HDD as well!

speedfan checks the hd temp too

not sure if it works but processexplorer somtimes shows processes that are not always shown in taskmanager.

Im sure ur ensuring the bottom of the laptop is on a cool even surface and ur ensuring all the vents are clear from any blockages and given ample breathing room.
