    Terrible WEI score on HDX16T?

Scored a 3.0 on the WEI with the following scores:

    Processor: 5.7
    RAM: 5.5
    Graphics: 4.8
    Gaming Graphics: 4.9
    Primary Hard Disk: 3.0

Obviously most of it looks right except the hard disk. I have the 320 GB 5400 RPM HD that came with the HDX16T. Yesterday I installed Windows 7 Beta and I tried to install all of the drivers from the HP website (except I pulled the latest Nvidia drivers straight from their site instead).

Could something be wrong? I don't recall seeing a driver for the hard disk, but windows seemed to recognize it.

You may want to contact HP, your drive may be under performing. I ended up with over a 5.0 WEI score with the same hard drive configuration.

What was the score on Vista? Remeber, Windows 7 is BETA, not HP's fault or Microsofts. It's BETA software.

Did you install the SATA or MATRIX driver? Try that first then re-do the performance test...remember, it's Windows 7 BETA and there are no official drivers available yet.

I don't recall to be honest. I just got the laptop not too long ago so I'm not sure I ran it. I was having some difficulty with Windows 7 (yes, I understand it's Beta software, and I haven't blamed anyone at present), so I checked the WEI and it came up 2.0 at first (again, on account of the hard drive). After I installed all of the drivers on this site:

    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=2093&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=3769207&lang=en

it came up to 3.0. After a couple restarts and rerunning WEI, it's still 3.0. I didn't see a SATA or MATRIX driver on that website though.

Edit: I'm currently doing a hard disk self test in the HP Bios just to make sure all is well with the hardware. Dunno if this will really tell me much beyond that though.

To me whatever score you get from Win 7 really doesn't mean that much to me. If you remember your old score from Vista, that would be key. I would say though and it's only conjecture, but if your score from Vista was that low, you would have remembered it obviously. A score such as a 3.0 in the HD is not easily forgotten. So I would assume your Vista score was fairly "normal" and thus your problem right now is just Win 7 and the drivers.

My HDX 16 also has the same drive and a 5.0 score.

Exactly. Whatever it was, I'm sure it was closer to in line with the rest of the numbers. Two points lower than everything else has me concerned. I ran the self test last night (took forever), and it was clean.

Guess I'll have to call HP today. I wouldn't have even thought to check the numbers, but the computer was acting sluggish. Windows don't open and close right away, and overall its just a bit slow. When I went back to my old Dell Inspiron 700M (4-5 years old with Pentium M proc and 40 GB HD), it felt speedy in comparison. Then again, that lappy is running XP Home, not Vista or 7.

Edit: anyone have a link for the SATA drivers mentioned earlier?
