I just received my new nc8430. Before I spend too much time customizing it, doing a clean install of xp, and moving things over from my desktop, I want to run it through the paces to see if it has any apparent problems that will require repair.

So, what are some tests that people have run to make sure everything works? Secondly, what are some problems that people have found that I should look for?

The obvious first test I did was testing the LCD to see if it has any dead/stuck pixels. What else?

    Thanks,
    Bob

You can use software such as Sisoftware to do a "Hardware Burn-In." Basically it stress's all the hardware in your computer to make sure their stable.

Here's a few things to check out:
Check out the programs that we use for NBR reviews
    SuperPI
    3DMark05
    PCMark05
    HD Tune
    Dead Pixel Buddy
MemTest (I think it is actually called MemTest86)
Burn a DVD using your files
    Play music to test speakers
Play games for a few hours and monitor temps with Everest Home Edition
Run the battery down one time, you should get 3-4 hours of life with light (office work) usage.

    Main problems with this unit:
It runs hot when gaming (75C), so you need to make sure your temps hover around the 70s when gaming (at most) and listen to make sure the fans run full speed. You'll know when they are.
