    Hello all.

Does anyone have users' advice for the HP laptop mouse/track pad? I keep thinking about this laptop, plus I already have an HP dv battery to use with it; but when I go use it in the store, the mouse always turns me off. That chrome finish that has been described in reviews as "Sticky". (Specifically the HP dv 13" and 14" models). It just seems awful to me. Why would they do that?!?

Are there any users who actually like the HP notebook's mouse?

    Really would like some feedback.

    Amy

I guess I can offer you some insight here. When I first got my dv&t, I hated it. It was different and annoying. However now, 4 months later (I ordered a dv7t the first week they were out), I have gotten used to it so that my wifes trackpad on her Macbook feels strange. It requires a lighter touch than a normal matte type touchpad. Once you aquire the touch though, it feels rather smooth. Due to its glossiness it is also very easy to wipe off.

    Hope this helps some.

One possible solution is to get a matte screen protector for cell phones/ipods...etc and stick it on the track pad. That way you will have something smooth, and should still work well. If not, it should be easily removable.

I hated the touchpad and mouse too, UNTIL I discovered all of the incredible customizations that could be done to it – and it works like a charm now! If you take the time, and customize ALL of the settings, you will be very pleasantly surprised. Here’s how you do it:

TOUCHPAD and MOUSE POINTER – TO CUSTOMIZE
Right click Desktop to open Personalize
    Go to: BUTTONS
    BUTTON CONFIGURATION
Select: Right Handed or Left Handed
DOUBLE CLICK SPEED: I set the slider to the slowest setting ( if too fast, double clicks won’t open files)
Click Lock: Select this if you want it
    POINTER OPTIONS:
    MOTION:
Select a POINTER SPEED: I set mine at the fastest – makes the touchpad fly (This technically controls the mouse buttons, but makes also touchpad feel faster)
    Check: Enhance pointer precision
Visibility: check: Hide pointer while typing
    DEVICE SETTINGS:
    Click on the SETTINGS tab:
First, click on Overview to open the tree and read the overview of the controls.
TAPPING: If you want to be able to tap on your touch pad, set the controls for Tapping, tap and drag, and tap zones.
BUTTONS: Double click on Buttons to open the tree and set the controls:
    Left ButtonAction: Primary Click
    Right Buton Zction: Secondary Click
VIRTUAL SCROLLING: Double click on Virtual Scrolling to open the tree and set the controls:
Check: Enable vertical scrolling and/or enable horizontal scrolling
    LONG DISTANCE SCROLLING
Check Enable coasting, if you want that option, and Enable Edge Motion when scrolling
SCROLLING SPEED: Set slider for scrolling speed. I set mine at the slowest
    Adjust SCROLLING REGION
SCROLLING SELECTION: I checked: Scroll item under pointer (for a broader scrolling area)
EDGE MOTION: Select the Edge Motion you want. I chose Perform Edge Motion when pointing and dragging
Select your Edge Motion Region and Edge Motion Speed. I selected: Control motion with finger and set my slider at medium-slow.
Constrained Motion, Slow Motion and Sticky Borders: Select some or all of these if you want them
SENSITIVITY: Double click on Sensitivity to open the tree and set the controls:
Double click on + to open tree
PALM CHECK: I left my Palm Check at the default spot , near center but a little toward Maximum (if mouse gets irratic, increase toward Maximum) If mouse is not responsive to certain clicks, decrease toward Minimum)
    TOUCH SENSITIVITY:
Light Touch – I set my toward the most sensitive -- all the way toward Light Touch
Click on Apply, and then OK.

I don't know if HP really TEST their touchpads usability before shipping 'em out?

DO they REALLY know that their touchpads are sticky to use?

These pads are really getting annoying, really. even the HDX16,18 still have this stupid pad!

what happened to matte' touchpads anyways?

    what were HP thinking?

    DO they know?

    Peace.

I will be buying one of these soon. I personally like the mousepad due to it being soft and the slicker is soft. Constant clicking on some laptops like some models of the Toshiba have hard clickers. Those hard clickers are awful, so I won't buy one of those. The HP mousepad and clicker is great.

its only sticky at first or right after you clean it off
i have a dv5z and hated it when i first used it but after about a half hour of use i found it very plesant
now i dislike almost all matte touchpads
also it is kinda in the right palm rest area which i thought would make me move the mouse alot while typing however im very glad that i have never experienced happening
all in all i would recomend this laptop to anyone
gets a little hot under load tho but that might b because i have the ati 3450
