Welcome to the Envy 17 SB & Envy 17 3D SB YouTube Video Thread. :)

Here NBR members are welcome to post a link to their Envy 17 SB or Envy 17 3D SB (Sandy Bridge) edition notebook YouTube video. As to content of the video: This is left to the discretion of the uploader. Of course content matter should be "family" friendly as this is an open and public forum. :)

Some video ideas that you may consider: An unboxing of the laptop, a general review or review of the laptop running certain programs, games, even videos. A video of you doing a benchmark, installing an HDD, SDD.... Note: A great video to do would be one showing how the wireless display is working with an HDTV either 3D or not. Playing 3D movies, or just a Bluray disk wirelessly would be amazing. The ideas are almost limitless.

As members add links to their videos throughout this thread, I will be sure to add those links into the this first post to make it easy for anyone to find.

Thank you in advance to those posting videos. It is truly a great resource for those who are either waiting to receive their new Envy laptop and are eager to learn what to expect, and also for those who simply want an extra view of what this laptop can do in order to make a future purchase decision.

Note: This thread will be updated as needed. Comments are always welcome. Enjoy. :)

Note: I want to thank 2.0 for creating the Complete Owners Guide Lounge. If ever you can't find this video thread on the first page you can always go to the Owners Guide thread which is stickied. In there you'll see a link that will take you to this video thread. Also, a thank you to BatBoy for posting this link into the Guide. Two awesome moderators. ;)

A nice little video from an HP rep. in the UK showing off the Envy 17 3D SB running a 3D game. He talks a bit about the unit, but its more of a tease. :p He mentions the wireless output capabilities of this model, yet he does not show it. (hint to users) It would be great to see a YouTube video showing the Envy 17 3D SB actually displaying a Bluray movie, 3D or not, to an external HDTV.... ;)

mrgod2u, thanks. Actually this thread was up just a few days ago only because Stephan C did his unboxing. The thread fell into the second page because others were dealing with Wifi/freezing of the Envy, RAID 0 of the SSD/HDD combo drives, and various other concerns and so they weren't thinking of making videos. :p Hopefully in the coming few weeks we shall see a nice variety of videos up here.

This threas is primed and ready for members to post their video links. Enjoy! :)

Looks like more professional/outside "reviewers" are getting their hands on the Envy 17 3D SB, now being sold in many parts of the World, and they are starting to post videos. Normally I would not post non-consumer videos, but I figured, why not really? As we wait for real World consumer videos of the Envy SB edition we might as well enjoy whatever videos happen to be out on this amazing machine.

Note: This video is what I believe is in DUTCH. Ignore the first 20 seconds...its not about ASUS....keep watching. Eventough I don't speak the language, I realize NBR has a World-Wide membership. For those who do understand Dutch, enjoy, and feel free to post the essence of their conversation. These two guys sure seem to be having a serious (they give the feel like its a Sunday news review group or something), :) although fun converstion on the laptop.

I watched it for the "entertainment" value. ;) I did understand when they said the following words: Envy, Intel Core, Bluray drive, Multimedia, Sandy Bridge, Beats Audio, and yes, they even mentioned Dr. Dre!!!! :D Ha, we are indeed a small World.

    YouTube - Hardware.Info TV #228 deel 1/3: HP Envy 17 3D laptop notebook review

P.S. Wonder how many other countries we will see doing reviews on this Envy.

Luckily for you guys, I'm Dutch. I watch this show once a week, since they have a new episode every Friday morning.

First they go through the specs of the machine and then they discuss what the Envy brand is all about (design, multimedia, high-end etc.).
They say it looks the business with nice finishing and the border-less screen. Then they're discussing the fact that the two hard-drives are Toshiba 12.5mm thick 1TB HDD's, that it has a slot-in Blu Ray drive and the Full HD screen with high brightness levels. Then they discuss the 3D software that AMD uses for 3D Gaming and finally the possibility of watching 3D Blu Rays on this machine.

They think the 3D effect is pretty good, but they don't like the active shutter glasses, because of the artifacts you can see due to the image switching.
They are slightly dissappointed that HP chose to go with a glossy screen, because the reflections can be very disturbing, particularly when watching 3D movies. And they also think the Beats Audio speakers are good for laptop speakers, but they would really hook up an external audio set for watching movies on this thing.

The Dr. Dre line was about that the guy on the left is not exactly a big fan of his music. :p

That was pretty much it.... ;)

    Cheers!

Mirakel, thank you for the review of well, uhm, their review. :D Also, a warm welcome to the NBR/Envy forums. Great to have you here. Yes, this is a great looking laptop, although I would disagree with them on the glossy screen. There is a great advantage to that screen which is a nice contrast of crisp darks. Also, they should have stated to avoid glare, watch the movies in a very, very dark room! That will tend to solve the problem.

As to the artifacts, it may be due to several factors. One of which maybe the way the movie was shot. It may not have been using the best 3D prodution for effects and this may very well show in poor playback results.

As to not liking Dr. Dre's music!!!! Not cool.... Dr. Dre is seriously a genious producer, and let's not forget his amazing work a few years back which I cannot mentioned here. ;)

Thanks KJ, I've been lurking on these forums for a while now. Still waiting for that Sandy Bridge-based Envy 14 or 15.. the 17 is just too big for my taste. ;)

Again, I have to point out that all that I've stated in my last post was not my opinion, just their opinion. I prefer matte screens, as long as they have good contrast levels. They did state that they really loved the screen while watching a movie in a darker room, forgot to mention that.

Looking forward to seeing more of your videos about the Envy, and any others you may do. Nicooooooooooooooole (sorry, didn't count all the ooos, so dont' know how many, lol) is right, your voice is great for this. Hope you enjoy the Envy for many years. :)

P.S. I didn't comment before about the "making the first incision" in the video, but I had a big smile when you said it. Stephan C, are you planning on becoming a surgeon? ;)

Where ever you are Stephan C THANK YOU for that HD version.

That single handedly might be the most sexy laptop I've ever seen unboxed in my life.

The pinnacle of design and beauty. This easily makes me relaxed while waiting. Because at the end of the day this laptop is so going to be worth it (provided that there are no software or hardware issues/defects).

The keyboard looks amazing!! Is it very comfortable and easy to use?

Ok, time to bring this thread back to life.

Just found this Envy 17 3D SB... He doesn't really give the specs, but I'm going to assume that since he uploaded this May 17, 2011 that it is an SB edition. :p

Fair warning: This video may give you a bit of a headache...film action is kind of all over the place. Good attempt though and he does offer it in various qualities all the way up to 1080p HD video.

Also, there are a couple of errors of fact on this video. See if you can spot them all...like finding Waldo! LOL. :D I'll give you one....he states you can't really upgrade anyting on the Envy except the ram...ouch. (not true)...

Anway, enjoy the video... note also the raised sides of the laptop...at least it seemed like it to me. Thank you donttakefakecredit and I hope you are a member on NBR. :) Ok... link below.
