Hi everyone!
I just wanted to share my experience with my HP purchase. First time I ever had a notebook and first time buying something from the good ol' HP... ok... in a few words... it went horribly wrong! (and I'm NOT kidding).
I've bought 5 items. dv9500t + w2207 + 8 outlet Surge Protector + optical mouse + extended plan. I was REALLY excited (no, I'm not 12!) because I spent a few months researching and deciding which one was the best for me and spent even more time saving the money.
- My first problem was with the monitor. When I hooked it to my laptop I noticed 2 dark spots (not dead pixels, just plain ol' dark spots - half an inch each).
º HP's diagnosis & solution: it came bad from the factory and I should return it for an exchange.
- Then I notice that the monitor flickered A LOT... I read about it in the web (in fact, found the same problem in this forum). The flickering seems to be the the laptop's fault, because when you unplug the power cord of the laptop and run it on battery alone the flickering stops... did i mention it flickers A LOT?!!
º HP's diagnosis & solution: the electrical unit is defective and I should return it for "repair" (which would make the notebook almost a refurbished when it's totally new!).
- The Surge protector has that red semi-transparent plastic which seems to have a small light bulb inside it that doesn't turn on! (I know it sounds picky but as a client I should receive exactly what i paid for... that's why I bought a new one and not a refurbished or a used one.
- The mouse's paint seems to be fading away just 3 months after I bought it!
............................ Other thoughts and complaints:
- The dv9500t gets really hot and it's kind of unconfortable when typing (specially now that we're in summer (Peru-South America) Not to mention that I would burn my two... legs if I use it as a "laptop".
- To be honest I expected more out of the laptop in terms of gamming... It's not my main purpose but I really expected more. I rate it barely decent![]()
- The battery (High Capacity 8 Cell) only like an hour while using msn with video conference and if I use the notebook's screen it goes even faster![]()
- The fingerprint driver doesn't work properly. Whenever it opens in a site -say yahoo mail- it asks for my password or fingerprint but when I do either it freezes... no to mention the annoying alert that pops up everytime I accidentally hit it with my wrist... I would change it for another USB port anytime.
Conclusión: 4 out of 5 items were defective and HP "kindly" told me to return it with out counting the fact that I'm not in the States and it cost me money and time to return it. HP representatives told me that there's nothing that they can do because they do not cover any warranty outside of the States and that I can understand, but what I cannot understand is why should I have to expect that almost everything I'm buying is defective... like I said 4 out of 5! And that's because I haven't even used the extended plan yet... if that goes bad it would be a perfect storm.
I'm really unhappy with the overall out come... a shame because I really had very high expectations from HP.
I didn't start this thread so I can trash of discourage anyone to buy an HP product, but I thought I needed to share and maybe find a solution to all this... I just want what I paid for, nothing more, nothing less.
I hate to whine about things and I hate to hate, but right now.... I REALLY hate you HP (Had to get it off my chest)![]()

PS. Thanks to Orev that he as been extremely helpful since day one... he really deserves more rep points!

Hey guys,
dondadah88, you're not being rude at all. So it's ok.
You're right, it is "my" experience with HP and things would have bothered me less if it was like you said "maybe got A faulty one". But come on, 4 out of 5 things that came bad?
Like I said before, I don't intend to trash HP or discourage anyone from buying any HP product. I just wanted to share my experience and see if someone has to offer or has heard of any possible solution rather then just mail the item to the States and end up paying the double for something I should have received well in the first place. Also wanted to know if it's something it just happened to me or if somebody else had similar problems.
By the way, yeah, thats me baby! And regarding the "creepyness", I've heard it before so don't worry, although it's pretty weird when your mom says: you look just like your father -
Best you can do is return it and get a business laptop (maybe from a different brand). This will have worldwide warranty and prioritized support.
Is the surge protector and mouse by HP? I dont recall them selling surge protectors.
Nearly all big companys have horror stories like yours. Its not just HP.. so feel free to thrash HP or discourage anyone from HP. Its good to let people be aware..
The HP (dv9500t) experience.. gone wrong!
