The New HP Spectre x360 Kabylake - the best there is?

This has been such an impressive laptop thus far when looking at reviews and specs.

I think it is superior to the XPS 13/rMBP 13/Zenbook 3 when factoring everything; personally and can't wait to buy it.

Any owners of this laptop in the US? I am currently waiting for stock in the UK...

 

the new spectre and the lenovo 910 are nearly identical in terms of awesomeness You may want to look at best buys website for some product reviews. be sure to click on the 256 and the 512 as they're separate review lists.

 

I was between the Yoga 910 and new Spectre and picked up the Spectre tonight.. Fan likes to run wild a lot so i'm not digging that part of it.. even after a large undervolt on the CPU it still likes to spin up for no decent reasons. Otherwise it's an amazing machine. Gets a bit warm too. I went for the Spectre mostly because of it being smaller and having a great quad speaker system (although it's still not as good as my iPad Pro 12.9 speakers). The 910 is 14" so it has a larger footprint, so keep that mind. Both are the same cost right now at Best Buy but i'd give the nod to the Spectre over the 910 even though i'm actually a bigger fan of Lenovo than I am of HP. HP really made an amazing device in the 2-in-1 segment this time. If I return this Spectre it's because the fan is noisy for me.

 

I like the look of the new Spectre, the USB 3.1 type C ports (hopefully there will be an all-in-one power/displayport/peripherals dock released at some point), and the addition of PgUp/PgDn keys.

I have the old (Broadwell) Spectre and don't have any problems with fan noise (they're always off unless there's a CPU-intensive process going on), and I think the speakers are really good. I hope the new model performs as well in these respects, although it's possible there have been compromises made in order to fit into the smaller casing.

Looks like the SD card reader's gone too - that's a shame.

 

I was also contemplating both the Yoga 910 and Spectre x360 (and also the Razer Blade Stealth), and tried them both out at Best Buy before pulling the gun on the Spectre. The biggest draw for me to the Spectre was the slightly better keyboard (it feels really good typing on it, and the 910, along with some other Lenovo laptops, seem to mess up the right shift key), and the price point. I needed the 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD config, and Best Buy only carried the 910 in this config with the QHD which shot the price up $200 more than the Spectre. I really wanted to try out the Stealth, but none of the Best Buy stores near me had any on display or in stock, but only available to order online. However, I do agree that the fan seems to run pretty loud more often than needed, even when I'm only browsing online.

There's also some YouTube videos posted of gaming on the new Spectre, with some pretty decent fps. I'm definitely going to have to try a few games during the Christmas break.

 

Initially I ordered and received a Lenovo Yoga 910. I liked it except for the strange placement of the up arrow key right at where the undersized right shift key is located. That design caused me to often hit the up arrow when I was attempting to use the right shift key. Maybe that would not be a problem if you aren't a touch typist.

The unit I received was very responsive, and I liked most everything, but it had a defective screen - it looked like EXTREME edge light bleeding at the bottom right of the display. Much more than some minor light only visible in a dark room with a dark screen. I returned it, and decided to replace it with the HP Kabylake Spectre 13" laptop. It doesn't have the high resolution screen like the Y910, but otherwise is a good match, and I have very happy with it. Perhaps the lower resolution will give better battery life.

It does get a little warm, and I have noticed also that it doesn't always go into sleep mode when cover is closed. Hopefully a bios update will fix that. I like the USB-C ports (moving toward the future), while still maintaining one "legacy" USB port for older accessories.

I do miss the SD card slot I had on my earlier laptop...

 

If only ta x360 Spectre or Lenovo Yoga 910 came with a quad core CPU option, I'd buy one tomorrow! (I need the quad core for the video editing I do.) Sigh.
