Has anyone bought this new revised or updated version of the dv7t? Is it the same thing but with new asthetics?
-
The new DV7T is no longer 16:10 (gone 16:9 like the rest of the world, unfortunately).
-
-
I just recv'd mine. didnt own the previous so can't compare. I can tell you its great so far
-
What specs do you have on it? 64 bit or 32 bit OS Vista?

I wish I would have upped the harddrive to 7200 rpm, i'm going to put like a 320gb 7200 and a 500gb 7200 and sell my 250 harddrive.
I'll defin take pics tonight expect them around 8, I know how hard it is to find any details on this laptop. -
Looks like a solid build, congratulations.
-
-
I could understand why people would be intrigued to get a 1GB graphics card, but it is just overkill I think. 512MB should be more than anyone needs at this point, a lot of notebooks such as Dells XPS line still run off of 256MB. But if you can afford the one gig, i guess why not, huh?
-
Dells were also behind in terms of tech advances so I think them using 256mb is irrelevant. However, they got smart and put SLI 9800gt in the m1730. Oh btw, I'm new to the forums here.
-
Can anyone confirm whether or not the new 1gb 4650 uses ddr3? I am considering getting one if the card is ddr3?
-
I mentioned in one of the gaming threads that yes the 4650 does have ddr3, I called hp three different ways(tech, sales, live chat) and i couldnt get an answer. When I finally got my laptop I immediately went to system info to check and was relieved to see that it is ddr3. I've installed Cod4 fallout 3 vegas 2, and world in conflict.
All of them play really well. I couldnt find my digital camera so I could get some HQ pics up for you guys and do a worthy review. I'm going to try to get one up tonight. -
On the left side the disc drive is now in the front touching the corner and the two USB ports have been moved to the back left. Looks similar to the dv5.
-
At times the refreshed DV7 makes me feel as if I went just too early...HEHEHEHEHE
Got back from HP and their refreshed line of laptops....I am just thinking about selling my current one and try to get a refreshed one....GOOD GOD!!!! -
Does the 512 Mb card use DDR3?
-
-
I am in the exact same point, just too poor to do that, and too lazy to go ahead and sell this one!!! The only thing I do hope they actually refreshed is that godforsaken dust issue in the infinity display! -
Well I hope some of these pics help you guys decide on the new dv7t. I will get around to doing a full review and am downloading 3dmark as we speak. Please ask any questions you'd like or request any pics.
Current Specs(I will be replacing the 250gb harddrive with two Seagate 500 7200's.)

P.S. The laptop has a hint of brown in it hence the color being called espresso black.

Again, that black overall color just rocks! -
Do you guys like the Infinity display or is it just better to save the 25 or so bucks?
-
ajzahir,
How do you like the screen? Can you compare its brightness to any notebook you may have had earlier?
Also, can you feel any heat in the palmrest area when idle? What about in browsing? full load? -

Hi,
I was just wondering if you new dv7t's keyboard is smooth and shiny like the dv2000t's verve edition or is it matted/ course textured like the regular dv6000t's keyboard. -
whats the WEI on the graphics? Gaming and Aero
-
Do any of you guys know if the DV7-2000 series, with 16:9 display and ATi graphics, has LED backlit display ? It's advertised as such on HP site, if you look at the product demo. But not advertised in the configurator or anywhere else.
Also, is anyone with DV7-2000 running Windows XP ? -

The display is LED-backlit. -
Just researching the market, I have the option to sell my DV7-1025nr and cannot decide if I really want the DV7-2000 due to smaller resolution screen. I really got used to tiny gonts and lots of space of my screen, dunno if I would go back, but if the display is LED backlit, plus the better graphics card, helps with decision making
THANK YOU
PS. It's page 100-101 actually -

The base resolution for 16:9 displays is 1366x768 (like 1280x800 is for 16:10). So the 1600x900 is definitely higher resolution than 1366x768.

Am I the only one who thinks the 'NEW' dv7t should have received a NEW name/designation? It went from a 17" 16:10 to 17.3" 16:9 aspect ratio- the dimensions of the entire system changed! Why not dv8t?
-
I think they keep the 7 because of the 17" inch screen, but yes, should have been dv71t or something like that.
As for the resolution, I know, I kinda like the 16:10 aspect, the larger resolution, and so on, but the 16:9 aspect ratio seem to be the future(not that I care about that too much), plus, LED backlit and ATI 4650 are the biggest selling points if you as me. -
allfiredup Notebook Virtuoso
The standard ATI 4530 looks pretty lame by comparison, but it's at least a solid step above Intel integrated graphics. That's the frustrating/difficult part about new technology...there's little/no hard data to use for comparison and you often don't know what you're getting into.....time will tell, I suppose.
BTW, I think the new Moonlight White color scheme is AWESOME looking...anyone else liking that look? -
Has anyone got any performance figures for the Radeon 4650(DV7T) vis-a-vis the GT130M(HDX16T)? Which one will be more powerful at stock clocks?
-
allfiredup Notebook Virtuoso
ATI Radeon Mobility HD 4650, 1024mb DDR3 (Asus N81)- 3DMark06- 6,045
If the HP HDX has the DDR3 version of the GT 130M, it will have an even higher score than the 512mb version above.
The ATI HD 4650 is impressive, but appears to trail the 130M by a fairly significant margin... -
I am keen on the black version of the new Dv7, although I know it will attract dust like crazy and it will be very obvious when dusty. But my GF wants the dv6 in white though
So when I do buy, I will be able to compare.
Regarding the 3DMark scores, very strange. According to NotebookCheck, the 4650 should score significantly better than the 130M, which is basically just a renamed and overclocked GeForce 9650M GT. -
allfiredup Notebook Virtuoso
The GT130M has two generic entries, DDR2- 5000 and DDR3- 6000 (maybe they're estimates?) and the Samsung R560's score of 6449 with its GDDR3 version of the card- DETAIL (click the 'more details' link under the 3DMark06 chart to see what I'm talking about).
The 4650 has the Asus N81 with 1024mb DDR3 scoring 6050, an unidentified model with 512mb GDDR3 scoring 6668 and a Compal with 512mb GDDR3 scoring 7180- DETAIL
I confirmed on the ATI website that the 4650 is available in DDR2, DDR3 and GDDR3 memory versions. The HP dv7t has the 1024mb DDR3 which is the same one that the ASUS N81 has...not the faster GDDR3. -
It's still comparing apples to oranges imho. The Compal notebook scores great in 3D, it only has a P8600, which is basically the CPU I am looking for. I have no idea what kind of RAM the video card on the dv7 uses, but from a technological point of view, there is no performance difference between DDR3 and GDDR3, in fact, I think that ATI says DDR3 in their specs just to avoid confusion, since normal DDR3 chips/interface cannot be used on graphic cards, especially cards from ATI(they invented Graphics DDR3 or GDDR3).
Anyway, it's pretty much irrelevant, I do not play many games on my laptop, and even when I do, I play older ones, and no matter what, the ATI 4650 is better than 9600M GT. -
Yeah I agree the Radeon 4650 is better than the 9600M GT but again Nvidia claimed almost 17-20% performance improvement of the GT130M over the 9600M GT.
-
Like I said, the GT 130M is a renamed 9650M GT with a bit of overclocking, nothing more. No matter how good the GT 130M is, I would still preffer the 4650 if I were to choose.

Maybe because that's where the HDD is..
-
HP attached the heatsink to the top of the left palm rest. So the heat transfers from the GPU to the chassis to the palm rest to your palm. -
In the DV7, the stock HD creates the heat, that is how mines gets kinda hot...honestly this is a bit annoying if you are not in a nicely cooled room, such as the college library...
-
Same here, in fact, same laptop model, 1025nr, yet with the stock HDD. Considering it's supposed to be a desktop replacement and not a portable design, the heat levels are acceptable. A SSD would solve this problem and a lot more than that, but the price is still prohibitive for the good stuff, like the Intel X-25.

I'm just so pissed right now that the dv7 cto removed the 2.8 ghz cpu option -
Of course it would fit, all SSD are 2.5" standard format.
As for the CPU, 2.8GHz is pretty much pointless, especially with that graphics card. the P8600 is, imho, the perfect option, low power consumption, good performance. -
allfiredup Notebook Virtuoso
I second your opinion about the P8600. I might even be tempted to go with the 2.13GHz P7450 for $100 less than the P8600. Upgrading to the T9550 from the P8600 (the next step-up) is $175. To go from 2.4GHz to 2.66GHz and get 6mb of L2 cache rather than 3mb isn't worth $175.... -
True, I actually forgot about those 1.8" drives and there are even some non-format SSDs, like the ones used in EEPC and the likes.
Also agree on the P7450 CPU(even the P7350 would be nice, if it would be an option), it will probably be the CPU of choice for my girlfriend's notebook. I personaly fail to see the utility of any CPU above P8700 in any laptop, I mean, they even offer Quad Cores in laptops now, desktop replacements or not, it's still pointless. Even for desktops, Quad Cores are not really all the usefull unless you run virtual machines and such. -
