    The diagnotics test failed in the Short DST

    Recently, I tried to clone my 1.8" hard disk to a new SSD hard disk for my 2530p, but the window vista was hanged during the cloning process.

    Then, I run the HP diagnostic test in the BIOS but failed in the SHORT DST(Drive Self Test).

    I would like to know if system recovery could solve the problem(I wonder if the the defected sector in the disk/partition is the recovery partition(D: HP_RECOVERY) or the window parition(C:\).

    the failed test means your HDD has some bad sectors and could be about to die, back up your data and give HP a call. It needs to be replaced and doing recovery won't do anything.
