I been juggling between the x6000 and the zd8000. Unless I didn't notice before now the ZD8000 offers RAM at 533mhz as option. Also the offer some new CPU's like the 620, 640. I'm never gonna pin down the perfect notebook.

From what I got off the MS page it looks like the chip[ is 64 bit compatible, cooler running, and has 2mb of cache. I don't know what this means to me. I was hoping someone would chime in. (I'm a computer idiot)

The 6XX series pentium 4 is 64 bit compatible which means that when MS releases Win XP 64 bit edition, your laptop would be compatible with the new OS..It is also the thing that AMD had introduced 2 years earlier as the AMD 64. From what I know I think that the P4 just emulates 64 bit which is quite opposite to that of AMD.

Whether they are cooler running...yes but by not any measurable quantity and also supports speedstep which reduces the cpu speed when not in use

Here is a review from anandtech comparing the processor with the 5XX series and also the A64's.

So if what you are saying is true and these new chips simply emulate 64-bit, then there will likely be a new chip out in time for the next MS OS release.

Although the 2mb L2 cache doesn't appear to be a big deal, the speedstep technology may be something worth having, but is it worth the extra expense at this time...?
