So I have been waiting since few months to buy a notebook, and since I currently have HP Pavillion from few years ago which I still love, I want to go with HP again. HP Envy has been the "elite" notebook from HP that I had been eyeing to buy once its 15-inch model refreshed this year, but latest notebook line refresh from HP has been more of a disappointment for me. Envy 15 is certainly not the best notebook out there, but I liked it for its looks and powerful configuration. So what I am here to ask is that has there been some information whether HP would refresh its Envy 15 this year or not? If not, which notebook is true successor to it from HP's lineup?

BTW, in your opinion, is there any other notebook that has sleek looks and powerful configuration like Envy 15 that I could consider? I looking to spend upto 1600, and need the notebook for browsing, programming, video encoding and light gaming.

look at sony s15 there are some cons with it but that was my next consideration. RIght now im eyeing the asus u500. the price predictions are expensive but we dont know until its officially priced. u could also look at the vizio 15 which had nice specs too i think. or u can wait till haswell. I have a feeling that HP is going to create a new premium line that will go after the rmbp and asus u500. maybe wait for the bugs in dell xps 15 to get ironed out? that is still expensive but they might decrease pricing.

i would love to wait, but its getting to the point where I NEED a computer...i've been waiting for to long lol

I will wait for the u500 pricing and then go from there. I may end up just getting a 15R SE. The sony isn't exactly premium feeling, it feels kind of cheap and easy to break.

It's an ultrabook, so you sacrifice raw power for thin & light that stays cool & quiet. It may be enough for the OP's needs.

Which HP Envy notebook were you looking at? There are a ton of 15" Envy systems, and their configurations vary pretty drastically. Different resolution screens, different GPUs, CPUs, etc. A lot of the Envy's have fingerprint readers (HP SmartPass) that is nice for logging you on to both the system and websites. If you're just doing generic programming (basic, c++, flash, pearl, etc) and basic video encoding (changing resolution, up-converting, etc) then the GPU isn't as important as if you were doing a 3d model type of programming. What do you mean by light gaming? (Name a couple of games, and that will help determine what GPU you might need in the system). If you're planning to play graphic intense games (where FPS mean life and death), and you want a high resolution screen I'd suggest the dv6-7014nr (Pavillion with Windows 7) or the dv6-7214nr (same system, but with the Envy name and Windows 8). If you want to cut $400+ off the price and you don't need a GPU that churns out the FPS, but still has a good dedicated GPU then check out the dv6z-7200 you can bump up the screen resolution to 1980x1020 like the others, but save money by getting the AMD/ATI GPU.
