So I'm just curious to find out how many people have or are currently having repairs done to their HP. It seems like no matter how many threads I go through, this is a re-occuring theme. If you're one of these people, vent, write down your repair, how many times and what the outcome was (if there is one). Maybe we'll discover some sort of connection. I should check out the other forums and see if they're having as many repairs done...

PS - I am NOT sending mine out for repair, but since I'm a new HP owner (my brother swears by them - he's had like 5 or 6 (2 desktops, and just got his 3rd laptop) - I wanna see what I may have to look forward to ... lol.

Ive heard lots of horror stories/nightmares from repair services there in the US. The HP section will have at least 1 on each page.

The common repair problem is they seem to open the laptop with a crowbar, returning it with scratches everywhere.

Second would be not repairing it properly or even at all after pointing out the exact issue, they say its been repaired but when you recieve it, its still faulty

Third, totally replacing the wrong part (which is properly working) and dont replace the faulty part

Most of the time people get returned a faulty laptop, usually the same problem you sent it out for repairs the first place. Any of the above can re-occur if you send it back for further repairs. I guess you just have to hope for the best. Whats wrong with yours anyway?

Coming to a forum looking for repair stories is like going to a hospital looking for sick people. The numbers will be highly slanted one way.

Well, here's my story. First, I had my wirless card not working, my battery not holding a chrage, and both of my USB ports not working. I sent it back for repair since I had an extended warranty. One day, I check my order status to see that they want to charge me $318.86. I call up CS and they all tell me it was due to my broken USB ports being "customer damage". Incensed by this, I talk to several supervisors who all assure me "I fixed it so there is no charge but you will have to wait 24-48 hours for it to update on the site" So i wait, and wait, and wait some more. Then the expected delivery date posrted on the site comes. Well, HP says thats when it will be sent in the mail and several supervisors confirmed the repair will still be shipped back on time even though there was a long wait. I call HP asking for a tracking number for the package being sent back to me. Everyone gives me either no info or trackng numbers that aren't even mine. After about 2 hours of ring around the world with HP, I ask for a case manager, and instantly get connected to one.

Ms. Susan Kapp has so far been very helpful. Within 5 minutes of me explaining my issue, she was able to instantly update the site to show that I paid NOTHING. So, I get my laptop back after some delay to find out, not everything was fixed (battery still barely held a charge no matter how long you charged it for).

So, I called Susan back, hoping for a replacement but I was doubtful. Sure enough, she told me to send it back. I sent it back, they received it on the 4th, and surprisingly, they sent it back that same day, only hours later. I get it yesterday afternoon to find, that it goes to a diagnostic screen for the ethernet card, gives an error, and this process loops over and over, which leaves me a laptop which is in worse shape than when I sent it in.

So yesterday, I called Susan who said if they don't fix everything this 3rd time, she will get me a replacement. Hopefully, the box will be shipped today and I should get it tonight or tomorrow. At that point, I will send it back, and hopefully, not everything will be fixed so I can get a new laptop outta the deal :p

Don't worry guys, I will keep you posted :D

You must be the luckiest man alive Heatseeker.

Bertie bott: i hope they dont fix it either. This means theyll have to replace it with a laptop on the product line their selling now(better specs if your one was old). Maybe even a Penryn processor as comnpensation

More likely they'll replace it with a similar unit they have in their warehouse unless your notebook is more than 12 months old.

The new penryn's just came out which means theyre gonna start phasing out the older processors, so if you fall into the old processors category theyll be forced to provide you with something they have. Most people seem to get offered a better replacement, quite suprised actually.

I believe they no longer keep old stock in warehouses. These get sold as refurbished models through corporate divisions. They are on ebay getting sold as brand new WITHOUT hp warranty services with replaced bar codes. Propriety companys do the warranty repair services themselves, watch out and avoid this!

Alot of people find this forum or post in this forum because of a problem they are having. So I think atleast 80% of members have a repair story on the message board

Count yourself lucky, I purchased two HP's a 6000 and 9000 series less than a year ago and both with in the same week lost their WIFI capability. So off to the shop they go. It seems this is a common problem with both these series.

I have no problems worth sending it in for, especially after hearing the US repair horror stories. As I've posted in other threads, mine just has a dead pixel at the top left corner of the display (not really noticeable) and it seems like the left side of the display frame (like the plastic casing) isn't totally solid like the right side - they probably use an industrial adhesive before snapping the two sides of the display casing together and the adhesive just didn't take on that side - so basically the center of the left frame feels a little loose, but it's not something you notice unless you poke at it with your finger and it's not like it will fall apart, because there are screws and pastic clips holding it together as well.

Another thing that sort of bothered me, because I have OCD and am excessively anal is that one of those vertical rubber stoppers was really crooked on the right side of the display frame. No matter how many times I edge it straight back into the indent, it cawls back out to crookedness! They must use some strange adhesives on those things.

    Regardless, Amazon gave me 20% ($200) because I e-mailed a complaint.

Lithus, excellent point! My problem, several calls to online help and problem not resolved. I don't think this is the fault of the online support as there is only so much one can do. The gentlean told me to send in my notebook for repair at a cost of $298 without them even knowing exactly what is wrong. Great deal for me if the part is $300, bad deal if it's $50. Anyway the notebook is still working so I'll work around my problem. Problem: machine won't boot without cycling the power button 2 or 3 times. Runs fine after that.
